I was making lunch this a.m. and looked up and saw this. Yes, that is my kitchen counter and no, she is not supposed to have her dirty paws on it! I KNOW had my couch been there when Shelby was in her prime, Shelby would have done the exact same thing and actually probably gotten ON the counter.
I also saw Jasper Lily "smile" today for the first time. She was standing with me in the kitchen (earlier) and I looked down as as I was talking to her (I talk to her a lot) and she was there w/a "Shelby" face, ears super up, mouth open and tail wagging. I swear she was smiling. Sadly I didn't get a photo of it but she's been with me for about 3 weeks... I think she feels like she is finally at home.
I also realized that it might not be a language barrier (however, we do know Spanish is her first language) but that wherever she lived before, no one probably really talked to her. She doesn't respond to my steady conversation with her (asking if she wants breakfast/dinner/cookie). Poor thing. Her whole life before me was probably so lonely. I would like to think she hit the jackpot with me but she might actually wish that I shut up from time to time! I tell her to come to "madre" and she will.
Oh Jasper Lily... you and your silly little booty shake ... girl's definitely got junk in her trunk ... like her 'madre'!
Cheers!
Alison & her Shelby fur-ever in her heart (and little Jasper too)

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Oh Alison! Thank you for my daily chuckle!
That Jasper Lily is definitely making your life interesting and adding some spark to it! Never, ever doubt for one second that Shelby knew exactly what she was doing when she sent you this dog!
Yeah, having a human actually talk with her and not just yell some loud scary word to her is quite an adjustment. But the fact that you made her smile tells me she's listening (or laughing her butt off at you!) and not scared.
Three weeks? You BOTH have come so incredibly far in such a short amount of time!
Hugs to you both! And bananns for everyone!
Sally and Happy Hannah and Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Looks to me like she is saying, "Mamacita, un banana, por favor?"
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

OMG ... LOVE it! "Mamacita".... perfecto! That's what I will call myself to her now. Thank you, Kathi! Madre wasn't flowing ...
and yet again, the lily white blond walking around saying, "Jasper, come to Mamacita" will surely turn heads!

Alison, I'm so late in saying congratulations on your new pup! I didn't know until I was reading Bonnie's thread about Faith. I'm so happy for you. I'm not in that place yet but I hope to be one of these days.
Hugs to you and Jasper Lily.
Amy & Spirit Libby
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
