Though three of our dogs suffer from social anxiety. Maggie has always been somewhat friendly. We were excited when we found out she could actually go to the dog park and play with other doggies.

We always took her to Bay Area dog park in Houston a few miles from home.  We got to know so many kids and their pawrents there.

Yesterday at the park a man pulled out his gun and shot another dog 3 times. Diesel had to be put down last night due to the severity of his injuries after being taken to the emergency room.

Due to most eye witness reports at the park. Diesel was playing with another man's dog. Witnesses said that the dogs were playing but most said they did not see any aggression at all.. The man then kicked Diesel away to the point Diesel did a back flip and growled at the man. He then pulled out his gun shooting Diesel once.  Moving closer and then firing two more times. Diesels grandmother stood in horror 10 feet away. The man was questioned by police and no charges will be filed. The man's dog had no injuries.

At this point I am scared to even take Maggie back there again. I know every story has two sides but the overwhelming accounts of people present at the dog park said that the dogs were not overly aggressive with each other and that the man who shot Diesel was very aggressive after the incident.

If I am allowed to share Diesel's page here I will. If not moderators I apologize.

Just a word of warning to all that even the dog park is not a safe place. So be careful who you let your kiddos play with =/

This is sad and scary!

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

That just made our stomachs turn over here at Tripawds Headquarters.

We haven't been big fans of off-leash dog parks for a while, and now here's another reason why. Ugh.

I went to Diesel's Facebook page, it's good to know that so many folks care. Yes, of course it's OK to share, thanks.

Right now I can't even go to the link...too disgusted and hurt so badly for Diesel and Diesel's family...yeah, just sick to my stomach.

I hope enough public outrage is generated to put this sick bas***d behind bars. I bet it's not the first time he's shot and//or abused a dog. And carrying a gun into a dog park with families, kids...????? And no chargees...???

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

This was not the first incident at this park unfortunately that resulted in a kiddo's death. There are two parks side by side. One for above 25lb dogs and one for below. There are signs stating NOT to bring small dogs to the big dog side. One mom used to bring her big and little dog both to the big dog side. It was a small Pomeranian. Two or three dogs started playing with the Pomeranian and things got a little rough and before anyone could blink two big dogs killed the Pomeranian. =/ That one was very much negligence though as the woman should not of brought a 15lb dog over to that side.

Geez that's awful. The thing about dog parks is that you just don't know what kind of mentality you're dealing with when you let your dog loose to play with others. It's usually not the dogs but the owners who are the problem there. Just too many unknowns, we've decided all of us are happier when we don't go to them.

Wow...I'm just totally shocked by this story.  My heart just breaks for Diesel, Diesel's guardian, and all the folks that had to witness a dog being shot.  I know gun laws are different from state to state but to discharge a firearm with other people around and possibly children nearby is totally asinine!!  And to shoot the dog not once, not twice, but three times is totally uncalled for.

Many years ago back when Lucky was a pup ('97-'98) we had people that lived next door (I won't even call them neighbors) who had 2 boxers.  They would torment these boxers to where they became very aggressive.  The boxers were able to get out of their chain link fenced yard and would come on our property.  One time I was out with Lucky when he was small letting him potty and one of the boxers came over growling at us.  I scooped up Lucky and backed up keeping my eye on the boxer so I could get back in the house.  We'd called animal control on several occasions about the dogs.  Well, one evening in the summer my husband was working out back in the shop with a friend.  The shop is about 200 yards from the house.  My husband and his friend were getting ready to walk back to the house and saw one of the boxers in our yard.  My husband's friend had a handgun and my husband carried that with him in case the dog came at him while he was trying to get in the house.  The dog saw my husband and took off for him and jumped and leapt for my husbands head/neck.  My husband was able to stop the dog when he shot the gun and hit his leg.  The dog then went back to his house.  We went in and called the local sheriff's office and they came out.  Nothing happened legally with my husband but the deputy did advise that he can't discharge a weapon within 500ft of a dwelling but he understood why he had done what he had.  Thankfully those people lost the house and were evicted and we've never had any problem since.

What happened with this guy in TX and what happened with my husband were two totally different circumstances.  The guy in TX wasn't in emanate danger from the dog so he should have gathered up his dog and called law enforcement if there was a problem instead of pulling out a gun and shooting Diesel 3 times.  Sadly though Diesel's breed plays a lot of peoples fears which is totally uncalled for.

Thankfully we have 4 acres of fenced in property so our Dobie boys can run and romp without having to go to a dog park.

Wow Sahana, I'm so sorry you and your husband went through that. Awful! Some people should be banned from having animals forever.
