Murphy loves artichokes, too. He is doing a pretty good job of biting down and eating it properly.

Today he got to go to Cabela's. Lots of people wanting to pet him and telling him what a good looking dog he is. He always wears his harness when we go somewhere like the stores, because (as Jerry said) that harness turns him into a piece of luggage. He is just so curious about everything. I am always surprised at how many people take a long time to realize that he is a Tripawd.
After a few more errands where he stayed in the car with Dad, we stopped in at Pet Smart where he very methodically checked out all the squeaky toys. He didn't find "the" toy, but we still have other stores to check out on future trips.
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
That is hillarous!
Two questions though...
Does he like his arti's with butter or mayo?
And who got the heart?

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.
1999 to 2010
He likes them plain...haven't told him that they can have butter or mayo on them. And Dad definitely got the heart.

Oh Murphy, Murphy, Murphy!! You bring us so much joy just watching you! I couldn't help but flashback to you and Gus so politely waiting for your pancakes from your Dad's plate!
Murphy is perhaps one of the most polite pups in the land!!
Is Murphy's garden going to have artichokes in it too, or just green beans?
A little off "subject"...just wondering if sweet Gus has sent you any indications that he has a dog picked out for you and Murphy??
Sending lots of love always

Sally, our weather here isn't conducive to raising artichokes. Sure wish we could. Soooo, green beans will have to be the summer treat around here.
And no, Gus hasn't made any wishes for a new pup known to us. I think he loved being an only dog so much that he wants to let Murphy know the joys of having all the attention for a while. Gus was an only dog from the age of three until just about nine. He was seriously pi$$ed off when Murphy came to live with us. The first thing he did was bite the new pup. When Murphy spent those three weeks in the hospital, Gus just resumed his "only children-ness" like Murphy had never been here. When we finally got to bring Murph home, the look on Gus' face was pure "Oh crap...he's back." They were inseparable when together, but Gus would just as soon have had us all to himself.
Murphy has never once acted like he is missing Gus. He just took over being the alpha dog so quickly. Another indication to me that dogs definitely do NOT deal with the emotional part of death like we humans do. As for us, there are still teary times that are mostly unexpected, but things are on a much more even keel.
So for now, we will just enjoy Murphy and do a lot of things with him that would have been difficult to do with two dogs.

He's so gentle! No alligator snap when he takes food from your hand? Wow, impressive!
Sssssh....I'm trying to convince Admin we need another dog, I hope he doesn't see your post about some things being harder with two doggies.

. We won't talk about it too loudly.
I think the soft mouth is just a part of being a bird dog. That and going down his puppy throat after a grabbed treat. He does learn, particularly when it involves food.
Gus had an extremely soft mouth. One very cold morning when we lived in North Idaho, Gus was walking around with that "I have something you don't know about" look on his face. Garry told him to drop it, and out came a dead baby bird he had been carrying around. But the look still didn't go away, so Garry told him to drop it a second time. He then spit out a live baby...scared, but still living. It was behind the other one. Gus always carried two tennis balls that way, too, one behind the other.

This is funny! I love the bird story. Reminds me of Ty's rooster capture. He, however had an alligator snap when it came to food.mi usually found it a bit amusing as it was just how he was. He did everything with gusto! Chan is dainty, Lucy is not!!! I must try artichokes. Lori, Ty&the gang

Love all the Gus and Murphy stories. The baby bird story is priceless. They all sure do have their personalities, dont they?

Dear sweet Maggie sure couldn't hide her "guilt" very well with a look like that! Just makes me want to say...awwwww
Love seeing Maggie's pictures! Never can get anough of that sweet soul!
Myrtle said for Hank not to worry about Blink "warming up to him". Myrtle will always be Hank's friend!!

This is too funny, started with artichokes, progressing to birds and rodents. I think the give-a-way, other than Hank's guilty looks, is the tail hanging from his mouth. Uuugh!
My cat Eli scratches at the patio door to be let in. Sometimes his cheeks are puffed out so I don't open the door for him. He gets frustrated with me and scratches harder and the bossy cat finally yells at me to open the door. And out of his mouth flies a moth!
Kerren
Okay Kerren, surely Mona and Eli are dogs in cats clothing! Very, very SMART dogs in cats' clothing!!
