Hey all!
Just a quick update on Domino and nose work classes. Tonight we finished our second lesson. Last week, lesson number 1 was super fun! It was mostly getting the pups motivated to search and hunt. A lot of hiding treats in boxes and getting them to hunt them down. This week we moved to our scent (birch) and searching in cabinets. And so far we've learned one very very important thing! DOMINO IS WAY TOO ATTACHED TO ME! He could care less that there are tons of drawers and cabinets full of treats, because OMG mom just moved I have to see why! And how can I search for birch when mom just breathed and I have to jump on her!
Needless to say, nose work may not be for Dom. We are having fun with it, and making it a game, but the trainer is having to pull out all the stops to get him to search. Next week we're going to try more off leash away from mom searches, and I'm going to take a frisbee and a tennis ball to see if that gets him motivated.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love having a pupper that is attached at my hip and thinks that my approval is the best thing in the universe! But it doesn't mesh well with having to go across the room away from mom to search for food. After this class, if he still feels the same way, we may go back to obedience, where my approval is all he needs. For now we push on, or sniff on I guess lol.

Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)
Awwww, this is just plain SWEEEEET! Has me smiling...and my heart smiling too! I've got the "warm fuzzies" over this post!
I guess when a human saves you from being "euthanized" and gives you endless love and security and comfort.....yeah, you don't wanna leave their side!!
Thanks for the fun update!
Hugs to you and ALL your pack!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Cassie,
That sounds like so much fun. I wish there was a class around here because the Weims are really good at nose work. Hank sniffed out a coyote the other day on a ride and almost gave me an MI. What a great thing to do with him. Have you ever tried agility. They hang pretty close to you and have to follow direction well. Keep us updated.

Oh my gosh I can just see that wiggle butt jumping around while all the other dogs are like "gotta hunt! gotta hunt!" Well what a learning experience for both of you. Whether or not you continue doesn't matter, all that matters is you continue to have FUN together and find out what you can do as a team. Too cute. I can't wait for another update! Thanks.

That's pretty much exactly what happened!!!! I wish I could get a video, but the class is so fast paced and I'm by myself. Doesn't work well for video taking.
