Cathy,
I was telling my husband about your surgery, and he told me there was a new melanoma drug that was just approved in March. It's the first new treatment in over 25 years, and apparently it worked pretty well. (He used to work for the company that makes it and actually had a hand in its early stages of development.) I'm sure you've stumbled across it in your research, but just wanted to mention it in case you hadn't. It's called Yervoy (dumb name) and it's made by Bristol Myers Squibb.

Hi Everyone,

Cathy is resting comfortably...well, sort of.  She's resting, but she is in some pain.  They took quite a chunk out of her arm.  She'll get the lab results in about a week, and I'm sure she'll update you then.  Thanks for thinking of her, and keep the positive vibes coming!

Jane, a sleeping Cathy, Angel Skyler & Angel Chloe

Skyler – 10 year old Golden Retriever.  Diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumor on 2-26-10.  Right rear leg amputated on 3-4-10.  Crossed Rainbow Bridge on 6-11-10.  Chloe – Joined her sister on 4-4-11, due to hemangiosarcoma.  The beloved Golden Girls are now back together.

Thanks Jane!  We know you are taking good care of her!

They took quite a chunk out of her arm.

Now she has a skinny arm!!!  And just in time for short sleeves! smile

Thanks everyone for all your pawsitive thooughts & prayers. I am on the mend. I went to work today, but can't wait to get home for the "good meds", and to get pampered by Jane!clown

I get my stitches out on Monday, and hopefully will have the biopsy results by then too. I am having Mole Mapping done also, so we can keep better track of my moles for any changes etc.

Micki, yes I have heard of Yervoy. I've read so much about melanoma over the past 5 weeks, I could be an expert.

YAY for Cathy!  Glad to hear you are mending okay!  Pain pills make everything all better (no offense to Jane's pampering, which I'm sure is great!)!

You can go to work and type?!!  My goodness!  Well, we sure are glad you are okay and we'll be waiting to hear what the results bring.  Hoping for the best news ever!

"Micki, yes I have heard of Yervoy. I've read so much about melanoma over the past 5 weeks, I could be an expert."

Cathy, I figured as much. That's totally what I would do -- get all the info I can, read everything I can find. I just wanted to throw it out there in case your research hadn't pulled it up yet.

My husband has been in cancer research, diagnostics, test development, pharmaceuticals (for humans, not canines) for nearly two decades now, and has also been directly affected by this disease, so if you need a little "inside info" on the meds, translation of clinical trial data, etc., please just PM.

We are sending you all of our very best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Take care,

Micki, Rio's mom, and all the rest of the gang

Cathy, wow, you're amazing! My Mom would be home crying like a baby! We're glad to hear you felt strong enough to do that though. Hope they're treating you right! It's almost Friday, hang in there.
