I want to introduce the rest of Rocky's fur siblings. They all come from bad situations. They are all rescues. Can the rest of our little "Zoo" fit in the ranks of Monkeybutts?
Here have Gretchen D. Labrador. Gretchen came to us after being abandoned in Shreveport when the people who had her moved and just turned her out. A former co-worker of Vikki's had a large doggie door for his Dane and "Gretchen" came into his house during the night and when he woke up she was in bed with him. When he moved she high-tailed it out of there. This happened several times. He knew where she came from and that her owners had left her. He finally managed to catch her and he asked if we would like her.
Now we have Henry H. Hound. We were having a small BBQ and looked down and there he was there. When I looked down, there was a 8 week old puppy standing there looking at me. He was ALL SKIN and BONES. Severely starved. We picked him up and put him in the back of the truck, gave him some food and water. I didn't think he would make it through the night. He surprised us and steadily gained weight. I checked around and found out that my neighbor owned him. He couldn't afford to buy food due to his drug habit. We told him that Henry had found a forever home. Henry has been with us ever since.....
Let me introduce Loki M. Monster. We were coming home from a poker run on the Harley and almost ran him over with the bike. He was around 4 weeks old. Needed some groceries and was ant bitten. Loki loves to get dirty. He wears his dirt like a badge and is proud of it!
Now we have Koda P. Itbull.....I found out Koda was destined to be a bait dog in a dog fighting ring... I managed to rescue her. The people fighting dogs were shut down and charges were brought against them. The other dogs were rescued. Koda is our teddy bear....
Rocky also has two feline siblings.....
P-Nut was the only kitten left out of the litter. She former owner was going to take her out and drown her. A friend of mine found out about this and contacted me. She quickly became one of the family...
Now here is Bill.... I was in Dollar General and I heard this woman start screaming that a man was trying to run over a kitten that jumped out of the cab of his truck. He was swearing at the kitten that he hated him and he was going to F-in kill him. There was a crowd of people but nobody was doing anything.. They were watching everything play out... I walked out stepped in front of the truck picked up "Bill" and started arguing with the guy. He put the truck in reverse and took off. I then cussed out everyone else for not making an attempt to rescue the cute little guy.... I put Bill in my Jeep and took him home.....
I also want to introduce Lucky. We lost Lucky last year. I honestly believe Lucky had a helping paw in bringing Rocky to us. Lucky was dumped off at our property. He was blind in one eye and had some deformities in his front legs. They never bothered him any. Lucky survived adult heartworms, went completely blind. None of these issues ever brought him down. He would still play fetch using his nose. We had to remove one eye due to an injury. Lucky is the reason we now have the ramps up to our porches. Complete with bumpers to prevent him from falling. Lucky used to love to go swimming in the pond. Due to his blindness, he couldn't do anymore so we bought him a stock tank so he could still play in the water. In alot of ways, Rocky reminds us of Lucky.....

Wow - what a great crew! Amazing how they have all managed to find their way to you. You must have an aura around your house that gives off a "doggy heaven on earth" vibe. 🙂
I'm a sucker for a hound! All your sweet peas look wonderful, but that Henry! What a handsome pup!
Rocky is a lucky kid to have ended up at your place,
Jackie, Angel Abby & MBBunny Rita's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
We do have an amazing crew. Each one is different in their own way. All just as lazy as can be. All that is required of them is to eat, sleep, play...Our fur kids have their own couch to sit/lay on..... Talk about spoiled!
Friends of ours have made jokes that our place is a Retirement home for abused, neglected Dogs, Cats and Horses.....
Yep... I love my hounds. Henry is a Bloodhound/Black Mouth Cur Mix. I have had hounds all of my life. Henry is a Mama's dog.... LOL When we go to the state parks, I love to take him hiking with us. He loves it too.....

Nice looking pack!
Your story of Gretchen reminds me of our dog Sadie. She was a purebred Collie, either 8 or 9 when we took her in. We thought she was abandoned and brought her home with us (we'd been out for a stroll), took her to a groomer, got pretty involved with her. A few days later we found out she lived down the road but was never allowed inside. So back she went, though we hated to do it.
The next day we came home from work and Sadie was in our living room, asleep with our 2 dogs. We called the owner and back she went.
The next day, same thing.
And the next.
She had dug a hole under our fence and came in through our dog door. She'd never seen a dog door before, but she learned.
We ended up involving animal control due to the neglect and the owner was aggressively "encouraged" to let us take Sadie. She lived with us for 5 years and died at 13 or 14 (depending on who you ask), well-loved and cared for in our Doggie Old Folks Home.
Dogs know when they get a better deal. They'll be patient up to a point, but when they decide you don't love them, they go after the better deal. Just like Sadie and Gretchen.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
