Domino gave us all a heart attack tonight. I was still at work and about to leave when I got a call from my mom who watches the dogs during the day. Domino had eaten the heads off of at least 5 matches. Luckily his vet was still at work with me, I instructed my mom and got her to induce vomiting right away while I got all the supplies from work that I would need. I was extremely lucky that I was able to stay in "vet tech" mode and not freak out about my baby. I gathered what I needed and rushed home. Dom vomited several times, but no match heads. Which only makes us freak out more because there are two other dogs upstairs with him. Signs point to Domino, so we're keeping our fingers crossed that it wasn't Finn or Bounder. I quickly schooled my mom on dog restraint and had her hold while I put in an IV catheter and got IV fluids running. Domino is very confused as to why I'm poking and prodding him, but he's being incredibly good. So now we're cuddled up on my bed, his fluids are running great. He has some more meds I need to give him when his stomach settles a bit. But for now all is well. He'll go to work with me tomorrow for some blood work to be on the safe side but hopefully it will all be fine. Now my mommy side is coming out and I'm scared, but I'm trying to be logical and keep him calm and comfy. It's going to be a long night, but he's worth it.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Quick update, Dom did very well overnight. I stopped his fluids last night about 11pm but left his IV catheter in just in case. This morning he is up and bouncy and crazy as always, so it looks like he'll be fine. I removed his catheter since he's well hydrated. He'll still go to work with me for blood work just in case, but it looks like he'll be unaffected!! My other two also seem to be fine this morning so we're pretty sure it was indeed Domino that ate them lol. I'll update you after work later tonight!

Dude glad you're OK. I got a good chuckle, it reminded me of the time I ate a road flare from a safety kit in the back of my people's car. I was fine too. Mmmmm....tasty!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Good news! Dom's blood work was completely normal. He's still doing great and is playful as ever. So while at work he got groomed (since he was covered in mud and other gross things). He's happy to be back home and is begging for his dinner! Thanks again for all of the well wishes.

Apparently I spoke too soon.... There was vomit in the living room this morning (Thursday) after everyone at breakfast, but I blamed Finn, he had just eaten a bunch of grass outside and was bad about vomiting everywhere afterwards. I thought wrong. Promptly after going to bed tonight, Domino proceeded to vomit his dinner all over me and the bed. He kept it down for about 3 hours, which is more than this morning. I guess he's going back to work with me tomorrow for possible xrays, my biggest worry now is if he swallowed any big pieces of the wooden part of the matches. He seems to be acting fine, but I know how quickly they can go downhill. I guess we'll know more tomorrow.

Oh Domino! No more puking, okay?
Cassie...dumb question...but could it stil be cause by the "antidote" you gave Domino to make him puke? Just hoping I guess.

I thought about that too. All we gave him is peroxide, so it wouldn't be in his system any longer, but it could have irritated his esophagus I suppose. This morning he is still incredibly bouncy and happy and wanted to eat breakfast, so I fed him half of his normal portion. I'm waiting to see if there is any more vomit :/ I leave for work in about 45 mins so I guess he's going with.

Oh, I hope Domino is doing better and he's been able to keep his breakfast down today.
Fingers crossed that he's doing better this evening.

Hmm. Let us know what you find in his belly! I hope he's feeling good and this adventure in chewing is over.
