I don't really pay any attention to how long its been since Jack turned invisible…I feel like he's always with me and I'm mostly consumed with the idea of getting another dog (I'm crazy without my own dog!).  On Tuesday I was really missing Jack, I missed snuggling with him and squishing his saggy skin. I told my sister and she said it was funny because she was missing him as well and had even put his picture up on her desktop…it wasn't until Wednesday that I realized that Tuesday had been 6 months since his spirit left his body.  Isn't it crazy how somehow we just subconsciously know things?!?!? I was cleaning out my room and found his skull and crossbones name tag he had when he was a puppy.  It used to live on his collar but he managed to warp the wire ring somehow so it kept falling off.  Well, the way the wire is now makes it hang perfectly from the ribbon on his urn – I like to think that he was making sure he was properly noted even in death, lol.  OK, and now the exciting news…….as some of you know or may remember, I have been in school to become a veterinary technician.  I have 4 weeks of classes left and then I am on to a 6 week externship.  I have only ever wanted to work in specialty medicine, preferably oncology, and I have achieved the grades to qualify for a specialty practice.  Unfortunately, both the places I wanted to go already had externs and I could not be placed there.  I saw on one of their websites that they were hiring for an internal medicine assistant, so I decided to send in my resume and let them know that I was willing to work the assistant hours for school credit.  I had an interview on Wednesday, and as I was sitting in the room I saw a calendar up on the wall.  I was thinking the dog looked familiar, so finally I asked if it was the Tripawds calendar.  The hospital manager got up and said it was and I said. "oh my gosh, that's Cherry!!!" and she turned the page and I said "AND THAT'S YODA!!!" So we got to talking about cancer and my experience with it and how I want to work in oncology.  The next day she called me back and said that regardless of if they hire me or not, she wants me to extern there in their oncology department.  So…starting March 28 I will be spending 6 weeks externing at Animal Medical Center of Seattle under Oncologist Dr. Chelsea Tripp.  I am so honored that a facility with no spots available has created a place for me…and if anyone from Seattle goes there, be sure to let me know!!!!  I am beyond excited 🙂

Laura,

AWESOME!  I am so excited for you!  This is great, and an honor.  I hope you continue to post here once you get that externship.  I don't quite know what an externship is, except maybe the opposite of an internship?  Does it pay?  Anyway, it sounds wonderful and just like the world is letting you know you are on the right path.

Best of luck,

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

FAR OUT!

Six months and look at the blessings in your life! The Captain has been sending good vibes your way, he just knew that practice was the right one for you. Congrats!

I'm wondering how they got the calendar? Could this perhaps be Lincoln's onco doc? Just wonderin'. Either way we'll drop some Tripawds cards to them in the mail.

Paws up!!!

Laura, I still think of Jack often.  I love that saggy skin too! He truly is guiding you from afar, and guess what - I know he will bring the perfect new dog into your house.  Just give him time to pick the right one.

Your career is getting ready to take off.  How exciting is that!  I hope you get into the best practice ever and have a happy and long career.  Our pet community need lots of folks like you.

Yes, how did they happen to have the tripawds calendar?

Keep us posted on your ship, regardless of whether it is an ex or an in.

First, Laura - Congratulations!! What an amazing accomplishment. You should be so incredibly proud of yourself. I admire you so much. How nice that Jack is still here to offer you support and guidance. You must feel as though he has a paw in all of this.

Second - This is where Spirit James (http://jamespoo.....pawds.com/) went for his chemotherapy. James' Mom Nancy has great things to say about the doctor there. I'm guessing that Nancy gave them the calendar.

Third - if you ever need a dog fix, I have two that are less than 10 miles from you, so LET ME KNOW. Lincoln and Quinlay would love to hang out with you. I know this doesn't address your need for your own dog, but Lincoln can be pretty overwhelming and he just may make you feel like he is yours with his "in your face" pet me, love me attitude.

Anyway, Congrats again. It's just fantastic.

Laura,

What a great story!  Congratulations- first for almost being done with school, and second for the externship.  Oncology is a tough field- great that you want to work in it.  From a client point of view it's nice to work with people who know what you are going through.

What's the diff between an 'in' and an 'ex'?  Does it mean you have to work in the parking lot?

Congrats Laura!  I have never met Dr Tripp but I have only heard nice things about her.  Which specialty group is she with?  I am taking Loki up to Seattle for a consult on his shoulder this Thursday and we are seeing Dr Johnson (surgeon).  Even though Loki is not a tripod I plan on bringing some Tripawd business cards with me.
