As some of you know, I am graduating in a few weeks and we will be moving back home to where our families are. We plan on living with my parents until we can find a house (Cody loves going there and my parents LOVE him).... This has been our plan for years, however, with Cody being a tripawd now and having the dreaded C word, I'm nervous for the move. We have a very solid routine at home right now. Cody is relaxed (and so are the other two). We had to make a trip to my parents last weekend and Cody was so excited the whole time he barley rested and when we got home... he crashed!
Any suggestions on making this transition to a new home smooth?
Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.
As a pack who moves locations many times throughout the year, I can tell you that the most important thing to a dog is keeping the pack together. Dogs don't care where they are as long as the pack remains solid. Do your best to keep doing your routines at the same time of day as always, that seems to be key to our Wyatt Ray 's sanity. As long as you have their favorite toys, bedding and blankies, the newness of the move will wear off after a few days. Sounds like your parents are wonderful and very understanding, I'm sure this will be an easy transition. Good luck!
Oh and I'd love to hear other folks' suggestions too, can't wait.

Oh and about Cody's cancer...I can guarantee he won't be thinking about it! Seriously though, how far is the move? If you need to find a new vet that's probably the biggest thing you can do as far as that aspect is concerned. The rest is just going to be all about Cody and the pack having fun. Dogs are so good about adapting to change.

Jerry, I'm glad you said what you said, because I was thinking that I'm horrible about moving! We've only moved once (it was before Steve joined us) and we just up and moved. Yorrick didn't care at all, especially since we moved closer to MumMum and PopPop (my parents). The funny thing was the role reversal of our cats. Saxon was always the brave cat and Spyder is the scaredy cat. When we got to the new apartment, Saxon hid for 5 days, and Spyder checked the whole place out until he found his new perch.
Angela, I'd say just move and let everyone do their thing! Be patient and expect the unexpected!! Like Jerry said, as long as everyone has their toys and blankies, they'll be fine!
Right rear leg amp due to injury from unknown cause (but don't tell her she's missing her spare...yes HER!)

Oh my gosh not horrible at all.
In my limited experience with cats it seems they take more time than dogs to adapt to changes like this but they do come around as you experienced.
Yep, as long as the pack remains one, everything is OK.
