So my puppy (not Quixote thankfully yay someone new)  has to have minor surgery. He has to have ONE dew claw removed (he has double dews on both back feet but one is floppy).  He is NOT getting neutered at the same time so they can not put an alpha numeric code tattoo in his ear. I do however want a tattoo so he has an additional form of id.  I need ideas as to what.  About the pup, he is 9 months old. LOVES food, any food.  His favorite thing to steal is coffee, he loves coffee (ya its bad for him I know but you keep a spoiled rotten sporting mix out of it). He loves to jump, I know at this age he shouldnt and we have thwarted his efforts in the house THUS far. But on off lead walks I really have no say.  Vet says he wont do it if it hurts and that as long as I am not forcing him to theres no harm no foul.  And SWIMMING this dog is part fish I swear. If we are anywhere near water he is IN IT. He tries and fails to swim in my fish tanks. He dock dives he throws his toys into the water and fetches them (If I am not fast enough with the throwing).  He loves everyone and every thing (and SMILES when he is excited or happy to see someone).

The tattoo has to be small and fairly simple.  It will go in his ear (we canadians tattoo inside the ear (alpha-numeric to show spayed / neutered status and random design to for id of intact animals).  My friend got TNT in a stick of dynamite for her Welsh Collie, when he had dental surgery done.

My ideas thus far:

Skull and cross bones --Nanaimo BC we like pirates our first mayor was a pirate or something.......
Waves
Fish
"Sporty" -- he is a sporting cross

Well, isn't that neat as snuff. I've never heard of tattooing in the ear for ID, but it totally makes sense. Our Harmony was tattooed on the belly from her vet after her spay.

As far as ID, we just have our girls micro-chipped. In fact our vet as started a new thing with VetScene where we can upload a picture of the girls. It has a quick snapshot of their shots, birthday, breed and their microchip number.

Here's a link:

So far I have to say, I'm impressed with it as it's quite handy when we need exact dates of boosters when leaving the girls with a boarder or groomer.

But I do love the idea of the tattoo as well for ID.

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

WOW... now I've never heard of a tattoo for a dog but that makes sense. I follow an Australian Kelpie on Instagram and he has one in his ear so that makes sense. Jasper is micro-chipped (and so was my sweet Shelby)... I liked the idea of skull and cross bones though. Kind of bad a$$! 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

We have decided on the following tattoos for the dogs (Quixote is neutered but was never given a Alpha-Numeric tattoo.... hmmm)
(Charlie and Lilly both are spayed and have Alpha-Numeric tattoos but IF they are ever put under again they are getting my kennel tattoo)

So Charlie, Jake and Pan will get a pick ax and diamond (Kennel name is Coal Miner) Quixote is is getting a pill bottle with RX in it or the medic alert symbol, Haida will get the medic alert symbol and a bee (she is anaphalactic to bees and wasps) and Lilly oh Lilly... we arent sure probably nothing as shes 8 a rescue and its simply too risky to put her under.

I want Haida and Quixote to be physically marked some how that they have medical issues.  EVERYONE is microchipped and has good recall, but I worry. and want as much id on them that is HARD to remove. They dont normally where collars as we hike off lead in the bush and I dont want a collar getting caught up on the branches.
