This story is about a dog and cancer, but it is not a tripawds story.  Bear with me.  My friend's lung cancer has spread to her brain.  While there is not prognosis yet, my friend wants to have a plan in place for her dog, for when she can no longer care for her.  The dog is an undersocialized, untrained, beautiful husky mix.  She was a stray.  What I'm looking for is a rescue group that will take in a large dog that needs a lot of training.  We're in Washington.  Does anybody have any ideas?

Thanks so much.

Becky, that is so awful, I'm sorry this is happening to your friend and her dog. Please send all our Tripawd love her way.

I would think that in Washington there are quite a few Husky rescues. Here is one I found that might be able to help:

Siberian Husky Rescue

You might also want to PM Calpurnia's Mom, she is very active with Husky groups and she's not in WA but might know someone there.

Good luck.

Afraid I don't have any ideas, but just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It is very responsible, smart and brave of her to make sure her pup is cared for.

Sending our best pawsitive thoughts her way!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Try Moonsong Malamute Rescue - http://www.moon.....ngmals.org  They should be able to help you find a reputable rescue group in your area.

Hi Becky,

I am so sad to hear about your friend!

If the dog is undersocialized and undertrained, a breed specific rescue will definitely give her the best chance. As per previous posts, there are almost certainly several of them in that area. I am very involved in rescue as well, although I am all the way over here in Western NY.

No matter though. Social media platforms have been a blessing for rescue. It has virtually eliminated distance as an issue. I will post a request on my Facebook page and let you know if any of my contacts can help.
