Hi everybody!
I'm posting with two hands!!!Â
I know this seems pretty mundane to some, but I have been in a sling for 6 weeks after shoulder surgery, my right arm this time too. Today is freedom day! Technically I am supposed to wean off the sling over the next week, but in keeping with my personality I am overdoing it on the first day.
Like it or not I should be around more now, and able to post more than a line or two (that is after I recover over the next couple of days after over-enjoying my first day of freedom).Â
I had an interesting experience with pain meds too. I have had several orthopedic surgeries (wow, were my 20's and 30's fun!!) but have always got by on Vicodin. This time I needed Oxycontin in addition to Vicodin the first week after surgery. Damage included a completely torn rotator cuff (so now I have some screws in my arm), also involved some bone shaving and various other repairs and clean-outs (at least I got my $$ worth). The first couple of doses of Oxy were quite a ride- I now understand what Maggie was freaked out about when she was on Tramadol! More about that later.
I still have several months of rehab to regain full use of my arm, but today is a day to celebrate! Happy arm emancipation day to all!!

the monkeydogs only THINK they have invaded the tripawd state
Finally freedom! Now you can be the resident expert on being stoned on pain meds! Glad to hear you are sling free but take the advice we give to our tripawds and don't overdue. You don't want a set back.

Thanks for the update and congratulations! Glad to hear your getting use of the good arm again. Can we call you Mighty Righty now?

Yay, Karen! Â Glad to hear you are now sling-free! Â Woo hoo! Â But don't overdo it - we don't want you to have to get that sling back out!

Yay for no more sling! Â I have had my fair share of injuries (especially for being so young, most from sports related injuries) and really any sort of immobilization drives a person crazy. Â You don't realize the little things you take for granted, like tying your shoes and combing your hair until you have some sort of injury that makes life all that more frustrating.
Baby steps with rehab and you will be there in no time!Â

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Well, happy YOU, indeed!

Happy six weeks, Karen. Glad to have you back full time (or almost as you pace yourself for a few more weeks)! Happy to hear you are healing nicely and somewhat unrestricted.
A friend of mine at work just had shoulder surgery and is in the sling - looks pretty funny trying to get those fingers hanging from the sling close enough to the keyboard to type! How annoying that has to be.

Congratulations--on a par with the one for the First Poo!!! Yay for No More Sling! I think I'll have some chocolate and celebrate with you. Cemil, Radzi and Mujde will have some of their Parmesan Cheese Gourmet treats (what they get when I get chocolate) and celebrate too.
Hope it's easy from here on out.

Congratulations Karen! Nice to have you back!!! Wow, you've gone thru the ringer, girl! Rotator cuff huh? That's what my Haley's MSI shoulder injury is in human terms...rotator cuff. I'm in hopes though I can get her through this with doing rest and rehab work that we've been doing for the past 3 months! All's well so far.
Hope you're not too bad off tomorrow after typing today!!!
