Today is National Black Dog Day and we should celebrate all of our black dogs (the least adopted from shelters). Here's to my Jake, the greatest black dog I ever knew!
Mom to Tripawd Angels Jake (2001-2014) and Rosco (2012-2015) and Tripawd Tanner. “Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today; and I'll always remember it”
I celebrate with you Elizabeth, Jake, TY and Daryl! Ty was not from a shelter, but we rescued him from a pretty poor breeding situation. Hugs from, Lori, and the Black Dogs!
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Yea black dogs!
Here's to my Spirit black dogs:
Bo-dog, who we think was a Newfie mix. I found him wandering the streets of my neighborhood and talked my parents into letting me keep him. He was a gentle giant and the smartest dog I've ever had.
And of course Tri-Pug Maggie, my first pug and the most stubborn dog I've ever had! I got her when she was 10 weeks old from my uncle.
My current little pack, Quad pugs Tani and Obie:
Tani is Maggie's little sis who also came from my uncle when she was 10 months old. She has more medical problems than any dog I've ever had (even more than my tri-pug!). She is also inexplicably the oldest dog I have ever had at 14.
Obie came from a local rescue group, I got him when he was 4 years old. His first owner did not treat him well and we have been dealing with the aftermath. He is an odd little guy who is happy at home but timid out in the world, unless there is food!

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.
1999 to 2010
Does Jasper count because she's part black? Here's to black dogs ... snuggles!!!
Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.
October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Yes, Jasper Lily counts as an honorary black dog!
Lote the thread ELIZABETH AND JAKE! And, of course, the wonderful pictures of handsome blue eyed Jake!
KAREN....ADORABLE, just plain adorable! Pictures of the pugs always make me laugh!!! And your Newfie looks so gentle.
Okay...this is NELLIE...my BLACK DOG SENIOR rescue...got her with Bob, a tri color hiund SENIOR rescue a few months befoe Hannah's amp. These two will forever be outside dogs....with their own shady porch...huge yard and insulated dog houses in the lorch. And I say that because theynjust hated being inside...everything scared them...they ran around trying to break through windows...it was just so foreign to them. So this isnone black dog who just loves being outside. I know, hard to believe any dog would prefer outside, but whatever their background was, this is their choice now!
Sooooo, advocating black dog adoptions AND senior adiptions!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Awwww yaaaay for black dogs! We didnt' know about this day, it's awesome.
I'm not really all black but I can relate to the black dog syndrome thing. My people always say that they noticed how strangers will avoid me all the time, but when Jerry (another pointy-eared Shepherd doggie), they would go right up to him. They say it's not 'cause of my big mouth, but they think it's cause my face is dark and "scary" to a lot of people who don't know what a LOVER of humans I am!

Awww, I LOVE all the pics of our black dogs! Of course Jasper counts and so does Wyatt Ray . How could anybody be scared of that adorable face. People were afraid of my Jake too, they said he was scary b/c he was all black with blue eyes...what sad people, they have no idea what beauty is!
Heres to all the best of the best dogs!!!

Was Maggie a pup in that picture or was Tucker the world's largest lab

KAREN!! LOL! I was thinking the same thing! Maggie looks like a little miniature and Tucker looks more like 190 lbs.!!! Love this picture!

MONA! Thank you for always representing the tripawd kitties....we love you pretty girl!!! And your beautiful golden eyes go so well with black! Stunning!!
MICHELLE....Snickers and Jazz are just beautiful!. But what Infind exceptional about these photos is your ability to get both of them to sit still for the camera!!! It shouldn't be a surprise though, look at how beautifully Sassy and Bosch pose for their pictures! You work magic!
Wyatt Ray ...alk I can say is itr their loss! You are a very handsome boy with incredible markings!! Wear your black proudly young man!!
