Hey all!

So as most of you have seen Domino has alot of hair.... and I mean alot! I was just curious as to if you guys take your tripawd somewhere to be professionally groomed, or if you do it yourself at home? I know taking them somewhere means you have to find a really good groomer that has to be understanding and patient and lets be honest, in the world of all of these corporate grooming places that can be tough. I personally have been doing a mixture. I will occasionally take Domino to a groomer for just a good bath and fluffing, but I know he has trouble standing on a table and standing in the tub and even standing for a dryer, his front leg just gets tired so easy. So I typically don't have them to any hair trimming other than a quick sanitary clip if they can. Then at home I dremel his nails, trim his paw pad hair, trim the tops of his feet, and trim his cute little nubbin tail (all while having him lay down on his back, which seems to be most comfortable to him). I also bathe him at home in between professional baths since I have a forced air dryer at home.

So I was just wondering how your tripawd gets pampered and spoiled? lol. And if you do groom at home, do you have any tips for making it easy on a tripawd?

Thanks so much!!

Wow, well I have NO advice whatsoever...I'm just in awe. One of us has to hold Tanner down and one has to distract him with a steady stream of green bean's just so I can clip his nails. It's a whole family production.

I just love that photo of Domino, he is so handsome!!

Good question Cassie. I had my house remodeled about a year and a half ago and I insisted on a dog shower. It was expensive but I really wanted it. So I bathe my dogs but they are short haired so it's easy. I also dremel their nails.

That is an excellent question.  I really, really have to give Johnnie his "summer cut", but standing up at the groomers for a long period is totally out of the question.  We bathe him at home ( half the time lying down on the deck, and with a garden hose ).  He won't be able to bear the blazing Rio temperatures with this furry coat.

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet.   Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues.   Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle.  October 17:  started having seizures.  Taking fenobarbital for seizures.  April 18: started prednisone.

Thanks! I have been extremely lucky. I can clip and dremel all three of the dogs nails by myself. Domino fusses a little bit, but lets me get it done.

Penny, I'm so jealous!! I love that dog shower!

Hahahahaha! We have two, and I must say, our tuxedo Crowley does make sure that Domino's face stays nice and clean!

MONA! CASSIE! I'M LOVING THESE VIDEOS!!! Too funny!

And is that Hank or Blink in his own personal shower? Not looking too happy!

Well, I guess I've been in the "country" too long....I've never taken any of my dogs to a groomer! And I rarely bathe them! And a "bath" consists of hosiing them off because of some stinky poor carcass critter smell that they rolled in! And trimming nails...have to get the vet to do that....no way I've ever been avle to do any of their nails by myself!

Oooops...I think I just shared TMI........

Awww cutest dog and cat grooming video EVER!

Well unfortunately we aren't much help here either, as GSDs are pretty much wash and wear. But Wyatt Ray will tell Domino,

Run! Run fast! Run far!

Just love Domino, Cassie! We only had Lexie groomed once when she was a Tripawd. I had her groomer make the bath water extra deep, almost like she was getting hydro-massage at the same time. for the nail trim part, which she always hated, I had her lie down with the help of a Lickety Stick. What is a Lickety Stick?

It's the coolest thing ever...picture flavored roll-on deodorant, and you get the idea. It gives the dogs something else to focus on and is a lot more practical than feeding a whole handful of treats. Here's a link to Lickety Stick online. I got mine through Amazon.

In terms of ways to make Tripawds more comfortable during the drying/standing process, you might look into a foam roller or half-roller like they use for yoga. My PT vet loves them and uses them in lots of different ways. Definitely can be helpful to support standing. Here's one link: http://cdn.open.....endeditems.

Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Wow...I love all the pics and videos.

Well, this is the one duty that is solely hubby's.  We have a walk in shower and with Leland and now Lucian they would walk into the shower with hubby to get bathed (well Lucian I pretty much have to sit the front half in and push the back half in right now).  The funny thing is I think it's only a 4 ft shower so not a lot of room in there.  Both Leland and Lucian plaster them selves against the door so hubby is always trying to pry them off to get the soap rinsed off their side.

Sorry I won't be posting any videos of this ordeal...don't think hubby would appreciate it that too much...winkerwinkerwinker

That look on Wyatt Ray 's face is priceless!! In the summer time we use the hose down method too! And Domino definitely agrees, run as fast as you can!

I'm so glad I started this topic, the pictures and videos are priceless!! Maybe I need to do a video compilation the next time I bathe and groom Domino?

And thank you so much Deb! I would have never thought of using a half roller for support, I'll have to give it a try. And the lickety stick is an amazing idea for stubborn pups on nail trim day.

Thanks again for all of your tips and adorable pictures and videos, definitely made my morning.

Yay Cassie, you definitely need to get that on video!

Wyatt Ray says he's glad he's not the only one who gets the outdoor spa treatment.
