You guys weren't kidding when you said they really normalize once off the meds!! Zeus is completely off the Gabapentin and halfway off the Tramadol. Once we dropped the Tram to 1/2 pill, his personality totally re-emerged.
Last night as I was paying bills (boo!) Greg started motioning frantically for me to "come look". Zeus was standing at his basket choosing a toy. For the first time since his biopsy, he proceeded to grab his favorite squeaky and lap the house on his "runway" (all the runners/rugs we have down), throughout it all using his tail like a rudder for balance. Once he calmed and Greg was laying next to him, he rolled over and wrapped his tail around Greg's arm to hold him steady, which has become somewhat of a normal occurrence. Greg, laughing, told him "you monkeybutt" (he doesn't troll this site like I do, so he had NO idea what he had just said). I told him that nickname is reserved and he must pick another. So, now he has been dubbed 'Sir Speedy Possumbutt' or "Speedy" for short.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Hooray for Zeus! Love the possumbutt nickname. (Maybe "pawesomebutt"??...)
And, yes, we need pics. 🙂
Keep it up, Zeus!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Good for Zeus! Toy browsing is a favorite activity here, too. We also have a basket and Dakota (with 3 legs) very delicately picks through them with his teeth, gently choosing his favorite bone. Evelyn (with 4 legs), bites the basket and shakes it till everything falls out, then sniffs them all and lays down for a nap.
If you can get a picture of the blur that Zeus has become (go Speed Racer!), put it here!

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
Terrific! Once those pink elephants go away, everything gets so much better. Woo hooo!

This is terrific news!!!! Go Pawsomebutt! Go!
I told him that nickname is reserved and he must pick another
"reserved nickname" is putting it nicely! It's more of a , "how not to act as a canine species" category!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Gee, too bad Zeus doesn't have any character .
What a great picture! Reminds me of my little brother when we were kids. My dad would point the camera and say 'look natural' and my bro would cock his head with a goofy grin.
I really like Zeus' avatar, but this picture is really awesome.
