When we went out as a family the dogs were left in the garage which had a dog door out to the side yard. When we would come home Snoop would always be laying in the driveway waiting for us. After she got yelled at a few times by my dad she learned her best trick ever. When we pulled into the driveway she would jump up, smile and wag her tail for a few seconds, then jump back over the fence where she belonged.
Karen
Super story!!!!!!

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
Got about 3 - 4 inches of heavy wet snow today. I remember the last snowfall last winter, and wondering if Otis would be alive to see another. Gator did not like having snow up around his ankles, although he diligently tried to keep up on critter patrol. On a positive note, one of Otis' Big Barker dog beds is covered in yellow fur. I am so glad that Gator is starting to feel comfortable enough to use it.
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Awww.....I think Otis is glad his BBB is getting covered in fur again. And now you have to vacuum up fur again too. Nice.
Gator, you better toughen up boy! You'll be dealing with snow all the way up to that cute puppy butt of yours before long!
PICTURES!! We need snow pictures!!
And btw, the Bridge has areas in it covered in snow all year long! Dogs who want to romp in it can go over there and have the Angels toss them snowballs non-stop! And talk about dogs making some pretty neat lookin' Snow Angels..............

Gus is the snow angel instructor! He Loved the snow and made perfect snow angels!
It's so good to hear that Gator is settling in so well. It really does make you think about what his relationship was with his former family. I sometimes wonder if he ended up at the rescue because his former owners died and there was nobody to care for him. He sure acts like he came from a loving home.
Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

You need to hop over to the "What job...etc...etc" and mention Gus's job as Snow Angel Instructor...with a picture! 🙂

Gator's "cute puppy butt" is pretty high up there. If we got that much snow, I am not sure any of us would be going outside!

I'll bet Gator being a Texas native hasn't seen much if any snow. I can just picture him wondering what is this stuff? I'll bet he'll learn to love it. Love hearing he's using the bed now. I too think Gator must've been well taken care of at one time by a loving home and family whose circumstances changed and weren't able to care for him any longer. I'm just loving the Christine and Gator story as it unfolds.
Just took the first surveys for the Cornell doggy DNA study (Embark DNA test kits). Very easy - one about general health (in addition to DNA reports they provide reports from their internal vets about specific health issues you identify or which appear in the DNA) and one on dental (both to identify current issues and preventative treatment/food etc.). Gator's DNA report is scheduled to come back in early January. I wish I had done this for Otis and Tess too, so the "cancer" DNA would be in their system. Wouldn't it be wonderful if some of these cancers could be identified by DNA screening and preventative protocols developed?

I am so behind!!! Love how you and Gator have become a family! I look regularly at the rescue sites and see so many sad stories that it is encouraging to here a story with a happily ever after! One day I'll have the courage to love again and seeing your story with Gator gives me hope. Big hugs for Gator! Deb and Angel Bandit.
Sitting here at the emergency vet (again?) waiting for vet to examine Gator. Clearly something wrong with right front leg? paw? toenail? He won't let me see it, but has been licking it for a couple of days.

Oh, Christine - how awful for you both. I am sure is it NBD - No Big Deal. In fact I am willing it to be so.

Sigh of relief. Broken toenail. They removed it, gave me some meds and a cone of shame , and we are home again. Vet said that she did not see any sign of anything other than a broken nail.
