Well, I had my phone interview today and it seemed to go pretty well. Now I just have to wait for the coordinator to send me the application and fill it out and send it in. Then I could have my home visit sometime next week. The coordinator is super busy though so it could take a little longer but that's ok. Right now there is a 6 year old black male Dane named Coda that seems to fit my household that needs a foster home. He is so handsome. Now we just have to wait. Thank you everyone so much for your posts! You guys are great!!
Whew! Just a few more steps to go. Keep us posted!

Fostering is awesome, and so are you for considering it 🙂 I was so afraid when I applied for my rescue girl that they wouldn't approve me because I was gone for so many hours of the day. I had tried to foster way before I lost Sammy and they disapproved me because I wasn't updating his shots, and because I wasn't able to quarentee I wouldn't be gone for more than 8 hours a day.
I think I have a great place for dogs and lots of love to give, finally they said yes and I got Golly.
I am sure they would be nuts if they turned you down! We would have to join in on the pack mentality and turn my 9 week old chewing machine loose on them!!
Best of luck,
Elizabeth

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Hello. My applications have been received and today I scheduled my home visit for March 20th. It was hard to coordinate the visit with my schedule and the coordinator's schedule. She says that all of the family members have to be here for the meeting so it wasn't possible until the 20th. I can wait though even if I am super excited and on the edge of my seat. The coordinator will bring her own Dane with her when she comes for my visit so I am looking forward to meeting her Dog. As far as Coda goes, the Dog I would like to foster, the coordinator said that he is in North Carolina and I live in Maryland. She said that he can be transported to me but there may be A Dane that is already in Maryland that suits my household in need of a foster home soon so she said if that was the case she would likely place the one in Maryland with me. I would be a little sad about that because my daughter and I have been looking at Coda's picture everyday in hopes of helping him. But I do know that I would adore any Dane that needs my help so I know it would work out ok anyway. It's so weird how you can start to have feelings for a Dog just from looking at their pictures and knowing that they need a home. Even though Coda may not be placed with me you can look at him if you are interested. You can see just how handsome he is. He looks so sweet. And he lost his family because they had a new baby. I just want to hug him. To see him go to Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Inc. Then click on available Dogs. Then click on thumbnail #2. Coda is the second Dog over to the right. He is black with a white chest. Who knows, maybe we will get to help him after all. We will just have to wait and see.

I don't think that is weird at all! I have become so very attached to the dogs on this site just from seeing their pictures and following their stories. So much so, that I cry each time we lose one of them. I think it has something to do with dogs being such "pure" beings in this world - so innocent and precious- that I adore them all. Good luck on the 20th!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

I agree, I don't actually know any of you but I feel like I do and I adore all of the pups so much!
Now I want Coda! What is wrong with people?!? Animals are NOT throw away items! They have souls and feelings. You can't get rid of them just because you're tired of the responsibility!! Ok, rant over. My apologies. But seriously...I want to hug Coda too.

Yay!!! Wonderful News!!! I had my home visit today and I am APPROVED!!!!! The coordinator said that my vet gave me raving reviews and she said my house looked great for fostering so now I have to wait some more. My daughter's 12th Bday is on April 2nd and we are taking her to a concert in Baltimore on April 1st and she is having a sleepover on April 2nd. So I have to wait for all of that to be over first before I receive my first foster. The coordinator said that that is ok because it will take about that long to get the intake evaluation done on a Dog that they are about to have that needs a foster. It doesn't look like I am going to get to foster Coda. But I will be happy fostering any Dog so I am extremely happy about my new venture of fostering!!! The coordinator also said that she and I will be the only fosters on the Eastern Shore so I am so happy that I decided to do this so I can help out some deserving Danes. The coordinator also brought her Dane Zeke with her for the visit and he was so handsome. He was a Mantle Dane and was about the same size as Valentina. He weighs the same as she did. The best part was that Emalee was so super well behaved!!! We met the Dogs on the street so they could meet on neutral ground. Emalee was very curious about Zeke. Zeke was a little shy but well behaved too. We walked slowly into the yard and talked outside for a while and then made our way inside. Emalee was totally ok with it and I was relieved about that. She is always such a good girl but I was a little nervous about her reaction. But I guess since she lived with a Great Dane for 8 years she was used to a Big Dog. So I will let everyone know when I am about to receive my new foster. Thank You everyone for all of your support. I think I am finally starting to feel happy again! Still missing Valentina like crazy though!!

Oh, of course you still miss your girl Valentina! But she would be very proud of you and she will be happy for the pup that gets to share your house! Can't wait to hear about your foster pup! What fun!!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
so happy for you, we know valentina is smiling from the bridge!!! of course, we will need many, many pictures!!!!!
charon & spirit gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Congratulations! I cannot think of a better foster mom for a great dane-- Valentina would be proud. Can't wait to see pics of your new foster pup!
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Yipee! We knew you'd get approved!
It takes a very special human to foster dogs. Valentina is proud of you, for sure!
