Oh Fortis - you are SO handsome!!!! Brett, I'm sorry to hear about the lung mets, but you have the right attitude, live each day with your big boy to the fullest, and here's to hoping you have many more with your beautiful Corso. I love seeing the swimming pictures - he sure looks super happy and full of life to me!! Keep us posted, you and Fortis have been and will continue to be in my thoughts. HUGS!!!!
Dhiannon (Zeke's Mom) & Zeke, a 7 year old male Bullmastiff, front left leg amputated on 7-12-2010 due to a joint tumor. Zeke earned his wings on 8-13-2010, we will miss our big boy forever! We love you Zeke!!
Thanks so much for all the kind remarks everybody! It meant so much to read each and every reply.
Rene,
Oh, I'm so right there with Spirit Jerry! What an absolutely beautiful picture. I can shut my eyes and feel the crisp cool air and that sense of freedom only rewarded to those who choose it.........Thanks for posting this Rene. Fortis and I have a very long journey yet to come and this photo will help me prepare.
Thanks,
FortisDad
You rock, Fortis! You totally are showing us how to handle what life brings... with joy for the what the day holds! Swimming with dad... happy, happy pictures!
Holly and I met her first Corso a few days ago when we were walking. This was a handsome pup, but not nearly as handsome as you are! So now we have an idea of just how big you are!
Sending huge hugs to our huge friend,
Holly, Zuzu and Susan
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
In honor of Fortis my less than manly pug Obie actually touched water on purpose today at the creek!! First time for him, only two toes- but still…
Way to show Dad how it's done Fortis!
"There is no future, there is no past
Thank God this moment's not the last
There's only us, there's only this
Forget regret, or Life is yours to miss
No other road, no other way
No day but today
I can't control my destiny
I trust my soul, my only goal
Is just to be
There's only now, there's only here
Give in to love, or live in fear
No other path, no other way
No day but today"
I think I'm about to fly to Texas and go swimming with you Fortis, it looks like such fun!! You are one handsome boy!!!
Brett, remember what others have already said here: Fortis doesn't know he has lung mets, only you do. We found out our Max had lung mets in October 2009, and he never showed any symptoms of them for 3 more months. If we hadn't seen the x-rays ourselves, we would've sworn the doctor was mistaken. Live every day to its fullest with him. All of our pets are special, and bad news doesn't necessarily mean today's the last day. I remember back to when we got Max's initial diagnosis, I was sure he'd be gone before we knew it. And yet he lived a very full and active 14 more months, which was more than we ever could have hoped for. Give your big boy a hug from us tonight, then go swimming tomorrow!

Brett, I love hearing about Fortis and his swimming hole adventures! I hadn't been on here for a while, but when I saw Fortis' name I eagerly clicked to read the update. I'm sorry for the mets news, but I'm happy for Fortis that he has you to lead the way. Or maybe Fortis is leading the way for you! It goes both ways . . . and you are both better off for having each other.
Lexi
Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.
So grateful for each day with her!
Lexi (Daisy's momma)
Brett and Fortis,
I am so happy for you! I love it when a dog is just being a dog, being your friend, being happy, and having fun. It makes life good. Yea for Fortis!

How cool, Fortis has a fan club. Man you guys have got it going on! That Facebook thing looks pretty wild. I think I might like it. I opened an account but only to upload photos before I started a blog and after the wife kicked me off of hers. Thanks for the heads up Rene. I am going to browse around your FB site. I had no idea.
