Can you believe that you wrote here last year, worried about how lazy Olie seemed? I'll bet you can't even remember him being that way. He just needed time to recover and figure it all out, and boy did he! He looks great! I wouldn't be able to keep up with him. And he is just even more beautiful as time goes by.

Thanks for the update!

Shari

Olaf is that YOU? The dog who was weak and unable to get around for very long? I don't believe it! I had a hard time keeping up with you in that video, you were everywhere!!!!

It's so great to hear from you. Watching you run around, seeing how handsome you are, well you just make our hearts melt.

You and your people have been working hard to get strong, that's obvious. Nice work!!!!

Don't be a stranger, it's always nice to see you.

He's stunning!  Congrats on such a solid recovery and beautiful looking gait.  What a handsome, handsome guy!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Thank you all! :)

He is doing much much better now. Hikes like these do tire him out (i.e. the pic was taken 5 min after his running around. he had to rest a bit), we go for about 1-1,5 hours, with a couple of short breaks. He is tired after that and sleeps for ours at home, but is still doing so much better, and after that sleep he is ready for more.

Earlier he would sleep so much, i would sometimes think he is sick.

Also, he runs so fast! He is as fast as any other dog, in fact, he ran with an italian greyhound the other day and the little one didnt have a chance! :D

He had trouble siting, but know it´s perfectly fine.

I admit, I didn´t do a lot of core strenght excercises, except a bit of rear end awareness. But we do walk every day. My town is on a terrain full of hills (as you can see on the video) and everywhere you go, you go up the hill or up the stairs. I think that helped on his back strenght.

Also, I´m amazed by the muscles on his remaining leg. It´s so strong, it feels like a body builder pit bull´s leg :)

Isn't it amazing? The rear amputees must have amazing legs since those muscles are so much bigger. Dakota was a front amputee and he had a "forearm" bigger than mine! His shoulder, up at his body, was hard as a rock. And his chest looked like something stuck on him from another dog because it didn't match. It was not obvious in pictures, but if you watched him move it looked so odd that people would look confused and ask me about his lumpy chest and shoulder!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
