So many of our members are approaching Christmas without their beloved tripawds, while others are facing new cancer diagnosis's and amputations for this Christmas. The Holiday season is such a tough time for those dealing with loss or major illness.
There is some happiness! We are so blessed as this will be Rusty's second Christmas with us since his amputation. We were not sure that he would be with us last year for Christmas let alone this year! Rusty will celebrate his 23rd month amputation on Christmas Day.
We held an open house last year for his dog friend's owners and repeated it again this year. On Saturday we had 49 of his friends and supporters come to celebrate his being with us for another Christmas; we are sure that all of the support and love that he receives helps him in his attitude to fight this terrible disease. We know that our time with him is limited and are enjoying every day; we are so lucky as many of you were not as fortunate in your battle with cancer.
We wanted to share our happiness this Holiday season. Let's hope that 2012 will bring more blessings and good news to our three legged love ones in their battle with Cancer.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
Chuck, Jan & Rusty
I have attached a photo of Rusty after the party. He was exhausted but so happy!+
Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com. He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
Super cute. The holidays are ruff, without piling cancer and uncertainty on top. If we all support each other, I'm sure we'll get through them...
Thanks for sharing Rusty's super cute coma picture. Pawties do take it out of a dog.

Here's hoping for all good things in 2012.
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Rusty is the surfer, right? LOVE Rusty.
I like this post b/c of your tripawd specific celebration. I was actually thinking of starting one called "Adventures with your Tripawd". We all have done things w/ our Tripawds - beach, hikes etc. But it might be fun to have a thread where everyone posts a BRIEF suggestion so that if you have a free day to spend with your buddy and aren't feeling inspired, you could surf through the list. Admin, whaddya think?
Hugs all around, the holidays have always been easier thanks to our Tripawd friends, that's for sure.
Rusty, you are too cute.
We will probably do a live chat on Christmas Day again, just hanging out, so if anyone wants to stop by to spread the love, we'll be there.

Love the post pawty coma picture! You are right, going into the first Christmas without your special friend is tough- I'm doing it this year. If I didn't have this very special community to fall back on and have my meltdowns, I don't know where I would be. Each friendship that I have made here is very special and there's a bond formed here that others will never get to experience if they don't have a tripawd. There are many things to be thankful for this Christmas, and one of mine is having this community.
