There was a dog on the komo4 news last night in Seattle, Washington.

His name is Jetson and he is a police dog.  He developed bone cancer and the police department has retired him and refuses to pay for his chemo.  The family will do what they have to in order to help him but I would like to direct them to Dr. Pam.

I can't find his story on their webpage today, and that is where I need help.  As all of you know, I am computer troubled.  If you can help me, I want to find his story and find a way to contact the family, because he serviced our state well and deserves a shot at survival.  Most vets in our area aren't aware that Carboplatin comes in generic form, so my hope is to direct them to the best vet in Washington, our Dr. Pam.

Thanks if you try, Thanks a bunch if you can locate the 411 wink

Oh, I forgot to say that they said they were going to mortgage their house in order to do his treatments, which usually runs upward of $1000.00 a visit.  The generic version for a dog his size is about $200.00 a treatment!!

BIG DIFFERENCE.

A couple people that posted comments on the story mentioned tripawds.com, so hopefully the owners will see that and come here for support and advice, especially as they contemplate chemo.

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

What a horrible thing - that police department should be ashamed of
themselves.  With my Mommy being in law enforcement - she is outraged!!
If a "human" member of the force was hurt and forced into retirement,
they would be getting their medical bills paid, so why should this
situation be any different.  Jetson put his life on the line every day
just like every other member of that police force.

My pawrents are willing to help in any way possible, even if that means sending a check directly to Jetson's family.

So where and what should we do now?

P.S.  $1000 a visit and I thought our vet was expensive 🙂

Thanks for bringing it to our attention Elizabeth, and finding that clip, Karen. What an honor to see people mention Tripawds in the comments.

Wow. Jetson is so handsome, and such a hero. He deserves to be cared for in the best way possible.

Looks like the TV Station has their Problem Solvers fund in place which will go toward his care. Donations can be made here.

I would also encourage his pawrents to look into our "Financial Resources" download post to apply to organizations who might be able to help.

Thanks so much guys, I am going to figure out a way to log on to their webpage and post in comments. I agree about the department, it should be standard faire to take care of ALL of their officers!

We got to meet Jetson, in "person" -- we go to the same oncologist!  I have to say, Rio was a bit starstruck, but at least she didn't totally fawn over him, too much.

A quick update: because of the Komo story, they received enough in donations to fully fund all of Jetson's treatments, as well as put several thousand dollars into the Police Department K9 Retirement fund.
