I am looking for a vibrating collar. Floyd is old now and is very deaf now. I trained him with both verbal cues and hand signs. He responded well. We've added in waving an arm to get his attention if we want to get him to do something.
The problem is, we have a big house and a decent size yard. He likes to be outside but can get barky if he sees a lot of activity. When he could hear he would come back to me if I called. Currently we have to walk to him outside or in the house if we want him.
We do not want a shock collar. We aren't trying to train our behavior. We want to train him to look for us and come. Our plan is to link the collar with treats. Any recommendations for a collar?
Any other tips for a dead dog appreciated
PS - Floyd isn't a tripod. I am alumni here and you all have a lot of knowledge
Aww sweet Floyd. We love him with four legs and all!
You are so awesome to look into all those things that will help make his senior years happy!
I've never used a collar like this so I'm not sure what could work. Have you seen this org, Deaf Dogs Rock? I'm going to bet they have some fantastic input:
Dont have a y suggestions, just want to say jow lucky Floyd is to jave you as hos hooman. Just like with Cora, and all of your animal pals, you go above and beyond to give them THE best life possible!
And heck yeah, Floyd is family here, even if is one of those funny looking dogs with FOUR legs😅😄

Actually, I found deafdogsrock.com as well. Seems like *almost* as great of a place as here. I got the collar today and did some training. Now I have to fight my urge to rush things. He was definitely making the connection between the vibration and the treats I was shoveling in his mouth so that's a great start.
Another thing that he's learned to do, is follow my partner's dog's lead. If she goes running after something, he will follow and if she comes back he will follow. He uses her for cues to tell when people have come home or other things too.
His arthritis is really bad these days and he also has some IVVD so we are going to try a session with the rehab people at my hospital. He has calmed down a lot with training and age and having my partner in his life. I still think that will be pushing his ability to cope. We will see.

And a picture of Floyd and Bear together on our recent camping trip. They have integrated well together
Hmm... I really should post a picture of Bear and Fezz cat together because they hang out more. And if I do that, I should post a picture of Tippy the crime-fighting guinea pig. lol. It never ends
Awwww LOVE the photos! It's so nice that Floyd is able to have friends, go camping, and live a dog's most awesome life with you and your partner. YAY!
We would love to see Bear and Fezz cat AND Tippy! You have quite the menagerie, I'm so jealous.
Glad you found the Deaf Dogs site. They are a fantastic bunch, we met them a long time ago at a pet blogger's event.
What collar did you get? So happy Floyd is catching on quickly. GOOD BOY!
Let us know how the therapy works out. How cool you have such awesome rehab resources at your disposal now. Wyatt had IVDD as well, and acupuncture really helped him out.
Loved learning more about the "elder frosty mug" Floyd and Bear. The pictures made my day.
Yes, very interested in following what working, what's not.
And yes, we want to see pictures of Tippy and Fezz! Keep ,'em coming
♥️♥️♥️
