Anyone have any ideas for a good chew toy for a large dog with a front leg amputation? His normal chew toys are antler pieces and natural bones and they just frustrate him now because he cannot hold them steady between his paws anymore. I've been looking around and I haven't seen anything on the conventional market yet that will allow him to really get his chew on with only one leg. Any suggestions are welcome, though I'm really looking for something natural and chemical free since we are battling cancer.

Our Libby was a front right amp and I had the same worries.  However, she seemed to figure it out and it helped that the butcher bones were rather long.  We never gave her small ones.  She just put her one paw over it to hold it in place then chewed on the end.  It wasn't standing straight up like it used to when she had both legs but she was able to enjoy it. We were known to also hold it for her if we were on the floor at the time. :)

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Maybe I just need to focus on getting him longer/larger bone pieces. Most of what he has now is about six to eight inches long. I tried holding his chews for him but he doesn't want me to do that. He keeps pushing my hand away. I think I interrupt his chew groove when I'm that close.

We do have lots of long lasting treat and interactive toy recommendations in the Tripawds Gear blog . But he will likely learn how to hold his chews, just like Jerry did in this video... (Turn the volume down if you don't like Them Bones!)

After my beagle Henry had his front leg removed I had the same issue.  My solution was a 10" length of 2x4 with an off center hole cut in it.  Henry could place his paw on the 2x4 and the bone went in the hole. The hole held the bone up so he could chew the end.  Hope this helps.
