My vet clinic posted this.  Please be aware if you are traveling with your furbabies in these areas or through them

Canine influenza or CIV is a hot topic right now. What do you need to know? Perhaps most importantly, Nebraska and Iowa are *not* currently affected by this outbreak. However, if you plan to travel with your dog to the Chicago area or other places where the virus has been identified, you should take some precautions: the virus is highly contagious & easily spread from infected dogs to other dogs through direct or close contact. People can also spread the virus - on their hands or clothing - from infected dogs to other dogs. Hand-washing and thorough cleaning of shared items (such as kennels, toys, collars & leashes, or food & water bowls) can reduce the spread of the virus; in addition, if you must travel to the outbreak region, avoiding dog parks, doggy daycare facilities, and boarding kennels will help protect your dog from exposure to any dogs that may be infected with CIV.

Anyone with concerns about their dog's health, or whose pet is showing symptoms of canine influenza, should contact their veterinarian as soon as possible. The illness can be mild or severe, but the majority of infected dogs recover within 2-3 weeks. Symptoms of the disease may include a soft, moist cough OR a dry cough similar to that induced by kennel cough; discharge from the nose or eyes; sneezing; lethargy; low-grade fever (normal temperature for a dog is between 100 to 102.5 degrees Fahrenheit); and loss of appetite.
The ongoing outbreak in the Chicago area has been traced to a different strain of the virus than originally thought, and marks the first identification of this subtype (H3N2) outside of Asia. It is not yet known if the current vaccine for Canine Influenza H3N8 will provide any cross-immunity to dogs exposed to the H3N2 strain. As we learn more, we will keep you posted. I have to add the reason why Iowa/Nebraska are mentioned is I copied this directly from their FB page.  I am on the border of Iowa/Nebraska
