something weird is going on....my screen is now too small to see everything at once....

ANYWAY....we went through this a number of years ago with wolfdogs.  We were facing legislation (and there is some in several states as there is against Pits in Florida...some places) and my husband and I did flyers...really elaborate flyers and since we were going to LA to see his family, we stopped at everyplace stoppable on Highway 5, going and coming and taped those suckers all over......I'm sure it had nothing to do with it, but the legislation was not as widespread as it was when it started.   (Tippi Hendren..sp??...was a driving force behind it....wish the birds had pecked her)  Now that I don't have wds (isn't this always the way) I'm ambivalent about BREEDING more of them...there are so so so many in rescue as I told a guy looking for a dog that looked like Whiskey (only female of course) to breed with his "wolf" (if he even had one)...this guy had no idea that wolfdogs are so numerous in rescue, you can hardly find a spot for them and in some areas you know what that means.   There are irresponsible people in every breed and in mixes whether they be mixed with the "wild" or a designer mix....too bad there isn't human specific legislation.

So while my breed may be a different breed for many reasons, and I also admit to a little fear of adult pits, it is like that whole saying about not saying anything when they came for someone else....I'm sure everyone has heard it.  It may be your neighbor's pitbull today and your cocker spaniel tomorrow.  It is of course the bad owners who give the dogs the bad rap but we all know that unfortunately we aren't able to euthanize those owners.

Sorry I missed the vote Shanna.

My insurance company required an agent to come to my residence and evaluate Fortis before they would insure my home. LOL. They required entry into the backyard with Fortis present and me at the gate in order to make their evaluation. That's really not fair in my opinion. I was required to post "Beware of Dog" signs along the entire parameter of my property as well as on all gates. Not because Fortis showed any aggressive behavior but because of what breed he was. What's funny is Fortis loves everybody!  big-grin

Wow Brett, that is nuts! Talk about discrimination. The signs create a bigger scare than the dog!

I've seen lots of RV parks ban breeds, including GSDs. Whatever. I don't want to go to any park that discriminates.

I am sure when Fortis isn't out there coughing up lung mets, he's out being a vicious dog.  Kind of reminds me about our neighbors calling the AC on us.  I can't wait for January when Chloe and I start becoming a dog therapy team, so I can tell my neighbors (if it ever comes up), "When Im not neglecting my dog for days on end without food and water, I'm taking her to visit the elderly to inspire them to live rather than roll over and die…"

Non dog owners just don't get it.

P.S. I'm being sarcastic about Fortis being vicious! Hard to read sarcasm sometimes.

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog

Post Subject: Tragic Injustice Read Article

When are
the legal system and the folks proposing legislation going to admit the
United States has a problem with humans and responsibility. This is the
problem that needs addressed - not a specific breed of dog. Dogs are
animals. Those of us who choose to have animals should also choose to
be responsible enough to keep those animals from harms way. The person
who owned this dog let the dog down. Our dogs are NEVER out of our
sight, they are supervised at all times. Let's not legislate against
animals, let's legislate against irresponsibility. Let's hold people
accountable not only for their actions, but for the actions of their
animals - cat, dog, horse, pig, snake - I don't care what kind.

Where
will breed legislation stop? What about shepherds, rottweilers, cane
corso, doberman? I'm sure they look scary to someone out there, should
you include them as well? There must be skewed statistics on their
number of bites out there somewhere we could us in support of additional
bans.

I am saddened that someone who is a former judge would be
so short sighted having been on the bench and seen irresponsible people
on a daily basis. It sickens me this is the direction our country and
our legal system is heading.

Watch out Chihuahua owners. You may be next.

Since Comet is ugly to people she should be on the list.  They should then ban 'tramatized and neglected by humans as puppies', too.
