I can totally relate! When I take my pups out...if I take just Liz, everyone wants to pet her and play with her. If it's Vito, people cross the street to avoid him. Granted, he gets excited when he sees people, but they mistake the 'OMG play with me!' lunge for the 'I'm gonna EAT YOU!!' lunge. I feel like I'm CONSTANTLY apologizing and reassuring people when I'm out with him. Poor guy, he's really just a huge pup. I mean, yeah, he'll protect me if you try to kill me, but that doesn't make him evil. =(
Proud mommy of a Belgian Malinois tripawd named Lizzie, who is completely spoiled rotten, loves kids, and will be going into therapy dog training as soon as I can afford it. You can find her blog here.
Also proud mommy to Vito, 3(?) yr old GSD. Adoption weight: 58lbs. Current weight: 90lbs. Goal weight: 85-90lbs (ACHIEVED!). Tested positive for EPI on March 30th, 2011 and stable ever since.

WAIT ....you mean I'm BLACK?
I find this conversation preposterous, personally. Whenever people give me that discriminatory look, I just give them a soulful smile and say "dude ....I'm a Lab .... seriously". Also my mom is a lawyer and she says there are laws designed to prevent the world from keeping the black dogs down. (she also secretly says black dogs are the best. this may have something to do with her wardrobe.)
BLACK DOGS RULE!
