Elizabeth, my apologies for just now catching up with Shy's situation. I too agree that this sounds like dementia, very much in
line with what I read in Dr. Dodman's book "Good Old Dog."
I know nothing about coping with senior dog dementia other that what I read in this book, but what I can offer you is this: would you like to
borrow our copy? I would be happy to mail it to you. Let me know before Friday, our "going to town" day!
Hope she's doing better today.

Elizabeth, not that it matters, but my dog was on Selegiline, not the other one. We got it at Costco, and it was actually very reasonable as far as price. It made a huge difference.
I'm sorry I mis-spoke earlier, and hope you and Shy are doing better today.

Elizabeth,
I hope things are better today. I don't know about dogs, but in humans SAME-e also interacts with SSRI's (like prozac), MAOI's (like Anipryil) and tramadol & can result in excess serotonin levels. In people it can cause increased anxiety, ataxia, headaches, cardiac arrhythmias & rate disturbances among others things. It's easy to forget about supplements and their interactions w/prescription meds.

Hello everyone,
Thank you for giving me such great input! I just posted but somehow my post ran away, so I will try again.
I got home 1/2 hour ago, and Shy seems happy to see me and is relaxing on the floor. The natural "downer" Is called "Composure soft chews". It is by a company called Vetri-Science. The active ingredients are :Thiamine, Colostrum Calming Complex, and L-Theanine.
I am going to try the natural sups first, before trying the heavy hitters. She was doing so well, it was such a sudden decline! I hope that it was just a bad day and I will be keeping a good eye on her tonight. Thanks as always for the support and we will keep you in the loop.
Pam, I will call you once I get the suppliments going on her and tell you anything I find.
Jerry- as always you guys are great! I responded in the PM for you.
Keep you fingers crossed, and I will cross mine for Hugapitbulls beautiful girl. It sucks when we face this 🙁

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Hey Elizabeth - we're keeping all fingers and paws in our house crossed for Shy. We don't have much else to add except we're thinking of you and sending lots of pawsitive thoughts across the miles.

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Goodmorning Cynthia,
Shy has had many good days since this last episode. She has an hour or two here and there where she exhibits this circling knocking over furniture behavior. She hasn't had any more all day all night events though, so this is good. I can see in her face that she is getting old. Compared to just a couple of months ago her face muscles are sinking in and defining her skull.
It is hard to watch her fading, but I would rather lose my loves to old age than anything else. The important moments happened yesterday. I was home sick and had all of my puppies in the backyard. The sun was out for the first time in a while, and they were celebrating! Shy was barking and trying to play with her brothers, she was wagging her tail and having a great time. Lots of smiles~
I am having to wait unti payday before I can get her suppliments, but she seems to be doing okay right now, so I won't beat myself up about it.

Elizabeth,
I'm glad she's a little better. It sounds like she had a really good day yesterday. It is so hard to see them aging. I always have a hard time distinguishing what is just Isabelle getting old and what has to do with her cancer. It does brighten the a bit when you catch a glimpse of their youth!
You are doing the best you can for all of your dogs & they know how much you love them.
