I am guessing in her previous life (as in before living by the beach and living the high life - ha ha) she'd never had baby carrots. She does love them and usually I put them in her dinner but I handed her one tonight when I was making myself a snack and she walked off with it. To her babies, of course!

She always saves them till the end of her dinner and eats them (I guess like dessert). Shelby LOVED baby carrots and we would share together!

Jasper ran a bit with me again this a.m. ... I am really trying to keep her lean and thin - I worry that she's getting chunky now that she's eating so healthy. She got a mile walk this afternoon and gets about a 10 minute walk in the a.m. Any other suggestions? (she's eating the recommended food servings) per a book that told me her daily caloric needs.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

haha Cody does the SAME thing with food he loves (although he is picky and will only eat carrots when they are chopped up). She looks like she is doing so well with you and really coming along going for walks!

as for the food.. i would say just keep an eye on her weight. We weight cody monthly on a scale at home (Tim holds him and we subtract Tim's weight) so that we can keep an eye on it. I think with the walks and as long as she is getting healthy treats she'll be fine! 🙂

Cody is our 7 year old Australian Heeler mix boy. Diagnosed on 2/20/14 and became a tripawd 2/21/14! We chose a homeopathic approach and he is being treated by Dr. Loops our of NC.

Yea, as long as she's eating well and exercising regularly you should be fine. If she ever starts to look chunky, just decrease her food by like 1/8 of a cup once a day and see if that helps. My guys are constantly getting small adjustments in their daily food like that just to make sure they stay thin and healthy! She looks great, and I love her addiction to her babies lol.

Ohhh carrots are a great snack! I'm glad she likes them, they are a wonderful high-fat treat substitute, especially for a chomper like her.

She's so cute!!!  It sounds like you're doing everything possible to keep her weight in check.  If even all your efforts she's packing them on, maybe try another kibble?  In the meantime: carrots for all!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Thanks everyone!!! Shelby loved her baby carrots cut up too! Thankfully Jasper seems happy to just get a special treat that isn't kibble!

Great advice! I'll keep an eye on her weight - she's on blue mountain dog food (protein based and wheat/grain free ). I found after what I went through w/Shelby, my dog will never have carbs again - no sugar, no wheat, no grain. F U cancer!

Anyways ... Jasper does love her babies and her carrots ... I slept last night w/her in my bed (on her own bed in case she tinkled and about 6 babies. I woke up there was fluff all over me! :-) It's better than her sleeping UNDER my bed ...

AWE!!! I love when Sally makes us posters! 🙂 clapclapclapJasper agrees... more candy! And she embraces her 'junk in her trunk' for sure! My girl definitely has a booty on her ... just like her mama!

As I sit here watching Jasper pick each carrot out of her dinner bowl and bring to living room, I can't help but think, Shelby did that too...behold the spirit of my best girl!

Have you tried those fresh green beans yet? The Bean Bandit says the petite ones are the best.

Be watching your mail early next week, Jasper.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
