Does anyone know if there are any special chew toys for front leg amputation Dogs? Valentina has always loved to chew on her Nylabones. In fact the first time she tried to chew on hers after her surgery I was delighted because I knew that she was starting to feel better and starting to do he things that she used to enjoy. The only problem is that she cannot hold her bone still now so she can chew on it. She still tries all the time but she quickly gives up because it keeps sliding down because she doesn't have her other paw to hold it still. It would be so cool if there was a specially made bone for front amp dogs that had some kind of piece connected to the bone to help them hold it still. Just curious if anyone else has thought of this or has any suggestions. Thanks!!!smile

I wish they existed, heck, I'd make them myself if I knew how! I always thought "L" shaped chews would work best, since they could hold it with one forepaw...but I can't find anything like that anywhere. =( If I ever figure out how to make my own, I'll let you know!

Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

Most front-leggers get the hang of it eventually. Just check out Jerry...

Other entertaining toys for Tripawds can be found in the gear blog.

Thanks. Wow Jerry really does have the hang of it in that video!! Valentina just isn't positioning the bone right. She is trying to do it like she used to when she still had her other paw. I wish I could show her the video of Jerry and she could copy him. Maybe I will try getting her a very big bone and see if that works. Love the song too. I love Alice in Chains!!

What about funky shaped toys? Like these:

Maybe? Liz isn't much of a chewer, but she can demolish a rawhide when she puts her mind to it...

Dante eventually got the hang of nylabones and other straight chews.

It took a while, though. He'd spend 10 minutes chasing it around on the floor until he'd give up. Then he got smart and would sneak up on the girls while they chewed their bones and somehow manage to get them to hold the bone while he chewed. We used to stick them in random places so they'd stick. Eventually he got it on his own - now he hoardes the nylabones and sleeps with the biggest one, takes it to the door with him, it goes everywhere with him!

Hmmm... chew toys?

Yes there are some that tripawds enjoy......we lovingly refer to them a monkeybut dogs!

Bud's favorite one is called Daisy but he has been hoping to try out the MBVP  brand. It comes in white, has long fluffy ears and wears a black eye patch.....I just haven't been able to locate one here. I've only seen them online and I think you have to travel to Vegas for a taste. I am guessing the shipping and "handling" fees would be astro-rocket-ical!

bahahahahahaha

I found these giant pig-ear chews that Rumbles can manage. They're textured enough for him to hold onto with one front paw. He loves them so much, he uses them as a pillow sometimes. It's actually pretty gross. But he's never liked nylon bones and greenies make him sick. He has always loved the rolled rawhide sticks, but those are impossible for him to manage now. So the big, gross ears are something we've learned to live with.

Awww, Rumbles, you look so cute with your gross pig's ear pillow!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Awww...love rumbles picture. Sammy always loved to chew and now struggles too. He just gives up after short time and seems frustrated. He loves esophagus treats and is able to tackle the entire thing....he's so happy when he's done....quite proud of himself.
