Ollie is starting his agility training. Judging from this video, Dad needs some agility training, too. I think this will be one class where he has to do the video and I will do the running around. The video was from his regular class last night. We missed the first session of agility, but his trainer said it was a session in familiarizing the dogs with the apparatus. Since Ollie was able to do this well, he was allowed to join one week late.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
WOW!! Was this Ollie's very first run thru????? He hadn't seen the the course apparatus before to familiarize himself? THIS DOG IS AMAAAAAAAZING!!! ABSOLUTELY AMAZZZZZZING!! 🙂 A d so are his humans!!
I love how he liked the tunnel so much he wa ted ro go back!! A d everything he was doing, it was with confidence and aFrankie happy tail!!!okay, going outside to work on an agility course for Frankie and Merry Myrtle....yeah, right!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
The tunnel was the only thing he had tried before. This was his third time through that. He did both of the other tries before we left on vacation. The first time was a bit of a struggle, but after that he figured out the cookie part of it. Now he thinks he needs to go back and check to see if he left any goodies behind.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
I think agility is a great sport and I bet Ollie is going to do great!
I did agility for fun with Obie a few years ago as a way to build his confidence. I also built a pug sized agility course in my back yard so we could practice.
You do have to be careful about spilling treats, as you can see...

Obie! You are my hero.
Love, Ollie
Actually, he looked like a mini-Ollie with those treats. Hoovering is a big part of life! Very important to keep that course clean.
I can't wait to see how he does in class. From the very first time he saw some dogs on an agility course, he was fascinated. I don't know that we will be able to build a course in the back yard, but some things might be worth a try. The weaving technique was interesting. I had never seen how they taught that.
Myrtle and Frankie have their freestyle Hoovering technique down pat, though. They will be the champs at that.

That video was shot the last night of a 6 night class so Obie had lots of practice. I was a little surprised how he took to it, he really seemed to enjoy it even in our back yard. Of course he is pretty food motivated!
My dad and I made everything in our back yard course except the tunnel. The pug sized jumps were all PVC pipe. The weave poles were re-bar posts with PVC pipe over them and then some green netting as the guide. The dog walk/teeter-totter was a work of art my dad built. It converted from the teeter to a dog walk with ramps with hinges and pins.
After Obie's first knee surgery I got rid of the course. He did not get injured doing agility- his knee problems were due to his leg structure, but I didn't want to take a chance.
When I was working with Obie on the course I had to put Tani in a x-pen to keep her out of the way. She wanted to participate but with her arthritis and balance issues I didn't want her jumping or going on the teeter. On the jumps I took the poles out and let her just go 'over' the frame. She seemed to like the 'Masters' course, but then she was pretty food motivated too!

WOW... these are awesome, Karen! LOVE it! I literally am chomping at the bit to get Jasper into agility! I really think she's smart enough to figure it out. I mean, she was smart enough not to jump out of the shopping cart at Home Goods yesterday!
I'm going to have to research where they offer agility in Los Angeles. So far I have come up with nothing except one place and their hours aren't conducive to someone who works! 🙂 I'll ask her dog trainer as we started level 2 this past weekend.

I hope you can find a class that works for you, I had a lot of fun with Obie. We only did an Agility for Fun class- but Obie did really well. And Tani was fearless and would have done any of the agility obstacles if I let her.
I'm taking a 'Sampler' class with Elly right now, each week we get a little taste of something. The first week was agility. Elly is fine on all the balance stuff but they wanted the dogs to go up the 'A' frame slowly which doesn't work for Elly so I didn't even let her try it. There was no tunnel which I think will be a problem for her, but I still have the one from the video. I have it closed now so it's more like a hoop and she is doing OK with that. I've even made it about 1.5 feet long and she will go through that.
Last week we did an intro to nose work. Elly did great! It is definitely the next class we are taking.

Fun, fun, fun! We start tomorrow night. Ollie showed a great deal of interest in the agility demo a year ago when we were at the park. Figured he might as well take advantage of the offerings at his school. There probably won't be any video unless I can get someone else in the class to take a quick one. Garry is still in elk camp...getting rained on, I guess...so I will be taking Ollie by myself this time.
