So, I just got the call from the vet and Meesha had a hickory nut stuck in her small intestine. WHEW!!!! Her intestine was starting to turn dark, but they believe they got to it just in time.

They think she'll recover well and of course we have to keep her quiet for the next 10 days.

(Alison!) "Holy crap on a saltine cracker!" How tha heck are we going to be able to pull this off whilst in the middle of a move? We close on the sale of our current house on the 30th. The place we're moving to is in the middle of renovation and doesn't even have a kitchen, much less water pressure.

I'm seriously thinking about talking to the vet to see if I can pay for her to stay with them these next few crucial days. I think it would be money well spent and give me peace-of-mind.

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Oy vey! Glad that it is not serious. Crazy girl!

What's a hickory nut? Like from a tree?

I agree, having her recoop there would be a good thing. Congrats on the new house! Did you guys sell the farm?

RELIEF ALL OVER TRIPAWD LAND!!! So scary if you hadntw been so on top of things...UGH!

OMD!! "Like from a tree?" LMAO! So many responses...all inappropriate! I vuess Texas doesn't have Hickory trees, but yeah, a hickory nut is "like from a tree"!

I have a lotmof walnut trees here and aome of my dogs like to gnaw on those as thought they were the finest vone in the land. Very, very hard shell though, but sometimes they get to the walnut inside.

Sooooo glad lottle Meesha is on the road to recovery!

LOVE!

A hickory nut is about the size of a small chestnut, at least the wild ones are small. They're very, very hard. Harmony used to eat them all the time and I worried pretty much non-stop during the fall. I can't cut the trees down because we basically live in the woods.

Yes, the house we currently live in has been sold. We had a couple show up who gave us an offer we couldn't refuse. We didn't even have it on the market.

This is where we currently live and have to vacate in the next 11 days. Notice all the trees? They're oak, hickory nuts and walnuts.

This is where we're moving to. There is only one oak tree (thank goodness) and the rest aren't nut producing so I'm thinking we'll be in a much better place regarding what the girls can ingest. (keeping fingers crossed)

Yes Sally, that's exactly what a hickory nut looks like!!! And those pointy little ends are very sharp!

OK ... so I totally KNEW this was going to be a Meesha update by the title! And I've used "good gravy" many a time in my life!

I thought those were walnuts - I've never heard them called a hickory nut. Holy cr@p on a saltine is RIGHT~

BOTH of your properties are absolutely STUNNING! OMG ... I would love to live in a place with that much space and land. I forget how claustrophobic LA feels until I see beautiful spaces like these!!!

I am so glad Meesha will be fine. I would bet the vet would keep her ... our vet kept Shelby an extra couple days after her amp (and spleen surgery) so I could not stress while I was at the office so I would think they would do that for a fee. Peace of mind is priceless for sure!!!

SO good news all around!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

OH my.  I am glad she is ok and they got to it in time.  Both places are very beautiful. 🙂

I am sure the vet wouldn't mind keeping her an extra few days.  I made K-state keep the girls and extra day just because I wanted to feel safe driving home with them LOL and not have anything happen while I was driving home.

A move with a surgery probably is better to keep her where she isn't stressed for a few days just in my opinion and yours since you suggested it 🙂

I can't believe these crazy babies

I'm so glad Meesha is going to be ok. These pups and nuts is enough to drive us nuts..winker

We have some nut producing trees. I'm always fishing acorns and some round green looking nut out of Lucian's mouth.

And congrats on the new place! It looks simply beautiful!

Hugs

Really happy Meesha is going to be okay. We have a lot acorns here but the dogs mostly leave them alone because they are too busy eating horse poop.

Your new place looks like a castle, simply beautiful, do you have to mow that lawn? We in Ca have to let all our lawns turn brown but my hubby hasn't complied yet. Good luck with your move. I just moved my sister from a hay ranch to a modular home with 2 horses and 2 dogs. It was quite the downsizing feat.

Haha informative indeed, thanks Sally! Those things look like they wouldn't exactly get passed naturally. Ouch!

Well Meesha, that is really great news you're gonna be fine. I'm so happy for your people and you, what a gorgeous house you are moving into! When you are well, I say "Tripawds Reunion at Meesha's Place!"

WHEW . . . WHAT A WEEKEND!!

The vet stayed open a little longer on Friday so I could visit Meesha Rae. She was still on IVs and all drugged up. I sat down next to her kennel, they opened the door and she did a face-plant into my lap. I sure do miss that girl. She was so happy in her half-crazed stupor!

I tell ya, our vets are so awesome. They call me no less than 3 times a day to update me on Meesha. They did agree to keep her for additional days, but they stressed with me that it was important to get her home and back to her normal routine albeit constrained. So I spent last night getting her crate put together and cutting carpet to lay in the bottom since she tries to ingest pretty much anything that's soft like a blanket, etc.

I didn't realize how close we came to losing Meesha. But her dogtor is saying that her intestines appear to be coming back alive. She still hasn't pooped yet, but that's because she hasn't had anything to eat or drink.

As far as the nuts and acorns in her future are concerned, the hub-a-dub is ready to cut every tree down within range to keep her (or Mel-Rose) from eating any more non-dog food.

I plan on picking her up today and just doing the best I can to keep her quiet while all of this is going on.

Yes, we have to mow all of that. The new house sits on 55 acres, not all of it has to be mowed, thank goodness because it takes a solid 8 hours with a commercial mower.

Rene - absolutely a great place for a reunion!

Hey Sally, how do you like those middle names!?

Love to you all!!!!
