It has been a fun few weeks with Ms Snickers aka Energizer bunny as Sally calls her. I haven't posted in a few weeks. Well Ms Snickers found a battery on my floor from when my camera bag fell onto the floor. I thought she had a bone that she was chewing on. She all of a sudden jumped up started shaking her head & pawing at her mouth. I thought she had a bone stuck in her mouth or something. I opened her mouth & didn't see anything in the process I turned the light on.

I saw the double A battery laying on the floor. Picked it up there was hole in it. I had battery acid on my hand so I assumed Snickers had some in her mouth. I was online and googled really fast and it said milk to help counter act the acid. So I just dumped probably 3-4 cups in a bowl and gave it to her. I also called the ASPCA POISON CONTROL NUMBER 888-426-4435 (If you have a Home Again Microchip they waive their consultation fee which is $ 65.00) They told me that I did the right thing and to give her Pepcid for 7 days.

Everything was going good up until 3-4 days ago. Then Snickers started throwing up stomach bile. In the last few weeks also we switched from puppy food to adult food. Well I just figured the 1st day it was tummy upset and all would be fine. When it continued I called the vet and she went in yesterday. Mom took her in for me because I couldn't get off work. Dr Boyer drew blood, also wanted urine (Snickers wouldn't cooperate). She said with the history of the battery (I had told her when I took Jazz in for some coughing) that she wanted to rule out any kind of reaction or ulcer. So they wanted to x-rays but Snickers couldn't eat or drink anything from yesterday from the time they left the office. I gave her some water up until about 7 because I figured over 12 hours since they could not get her until noon today was way too long without water. Took the xrays saw no damage or blockages that could be causing her to get sick. Thank God.

So back to assuming its the food. It may just be too much for her system. Although Jazz doesn't have a problem nor does Bosch on this food. I am supposed to feed a bland diet for 7 days, switch her back to puppy food for 3 weeks then probably try a different adult food. We feed Taste of the Wild Salmon & Waterfowl mixed because that seemed to keep Bosch's fistulas under control. I guess its back to researching what kind of food for all of them. I would like to try to keep them on the same but I guess if I can't I can't.

So any helpful hints would be of great help.

Hugs

Michelle & Angel Sassy

PS sorry this is so long. Guess I should make it a blog post LOL too.

Is it that yellow bile stuff? Jasper has been doing that off and on since I got her and recently, more than not. When I dropped her at the vet this week for boarding, they told me that it was because her stomach was too empty and she needed MORE small meals. I guess like acid reflux in humans. Now Jasper eats 1/2 cup kibble (and 1/2 egg) for breakfast and 1/2 cup kibble (and some pure pumpkin) for dinner. Total 1 cup of food per day which is perfect per her size. She gets grain-free blue buffalo.

So our vet told us that I should give her a handful of kibble *just a couple pieces* right before bed so her belly doesn't get too empty. I don't know if this is at all your case but thought I would share.

BTW - Jasper's meal times are about 6/6:30 a.m. and 6/6:30 p.m. so about 12 hours apart. I just thought Jasper was adopting the LA skinny lifestyle with the binge and purge but not so much.

Hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Okay Smicjers....Jazz and B osch too! Enough is enough!

Parents f tripawds are a little skittish and hyper worried humans!!!

Acid? Coughing? Fistulas? Bosch, you're excised...you're a little older and n you've earned the right to have a few bumls on your butt! But you two young whipper snappers...BEHAVE!!!!

And jist a quick aside to ALISON.....did you jave to use the term ACID reflux when we have an acid battery eating dog on the premises?clown Jasper...LA binger...love you Alison!! <img src="http://tripawds....." title="clap" alt="clap" clap

Seriously, good feedback about the multiple small meals. I did read that large breed puppies should be kept o. THREE meals a day at least through one year...as well as the puppy food.

I can just hear Sassy and Happy Hannah yelling to all the Angels in the Bridge's kitchen,. "We're puppies! We're puppies!" In fact, all the Bridge residents are feeling like puppies!

Such a relief Michelle! I know these scares pur pups put us through make us age overnight....then they're all better and we can breathe again!

GREAT infor.ation about the contacts for poinson emergency. You are always a wealth of great resources!!!

Sending lots of love and hugs...and a few extra batteries...sounds like your supply has been damaged!!!

Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Never a quiet moment. Toby got a triple a battery Sunday night. Didn't realize it till I found it with a puncture and the fluid leaking out. He didn't show any signs of distress, but obviously didn't like it cuz he left it there. Guess that is what makes them so endearing.

Its funny that you say this b/c I had been feeding Tanner Taste of the Wild (Salmon). He was belching and had sour stomach/acid reflux issues, so the vet said to switch flavors. Tried a bag of the duck and no change. I switched him over to Merrick less than a week ago and haven't noticed him having any issue at all.

Michelle,

I am so glad Snickers is ok... Those scares with our pups surely reduce the overall lifespan of our heart.

My two Labs Duchess and Maggie had problems with their digestive systems.....Duchess's was just what Alison is dealing with, empty belly upsets. She is the reason I always feed my dogs 3 times a day. Her symptoms completely resolved with 3 smaller feedings a day.

Maggie had much more difficulty, that we could never figure out, it started with her as an adult 5-6 years old.......tried many different low antigen foods, could never find any food to completely eliminate her bloat-like symptoms......very scary stuff every time she went through an episode. Still ran her to the vet ER a few times to rule out actual bloat. We ultimately figured it was some type of early symptomatic episodes of her hemangiosarcoma. Maggie was also on Pepcid/Zantac during that time as well.

Thankfully, Polly never had food or vomiting issues, nor does Pearl.......keeping fingers crossed.

Hopefully you will find an answer for Snicker's eating dilemma, which I could be of more help food-wise.

Love,

Bonnie & Angel Polly

Sorry about all those post to the link. I don't know what happened. I guess that is what I get for trying to type that while I was working. I was thinking Merrick I tried that with Sassy when she decided to be real picky and she liked it. The only thing that scares me is Bosch's fistualas. Finally after him having for almost 7 years we have them in sort of a remission. They never go away but just in remission. Thanks to my wonderful vet Dr Boyer. A story in itself with Bosch. I split a can of food between the 3 of them with their dry food.

Instead of me just getting to put meds on Bosch's butt, I now have hicodon for Jazz (coughing) and ear stuff because of infection thank goodness almost done with the ears. Bosch also gets allergy meds and a new steroid cream for his chin because he has scratched that raw in the past 2 days. Snickers is getting 3 cups of rice to 1 cup of meat for the next week then back to puppy food. Plus Cerenia for nausea and a medicine (didn't look at the name) to coat her stomach.

No wonder I am so tired LOL.

Hugs

Man oh man. You need to ipen up a pharmacy Michelle!

I have heard tha tPRECISE is supposed to be good for allergy prone dogs. Dr. Pam mentioned it as a good food for Myrtle's fast growing bones in her post (large breed puppy). The place I buy this stuffsells the adult to alot of m people whose dogs have allergies and she says they think it helps.

Been feeding Orjen large breed puppy and sometimes the Precise large breed puppy

Question...is Taste of the Wild made by Diamond?

Taste of the Wild is manufactured at a Diamond plant. I am wondering if it could be that for Bosch but not sure. I haven't ever heard of Precise. I want to stick with a Grain Free though to.

Yep, TOTW is Diamond Pet Foods.

It's hard to give you a recommendation on food. I would highly recommend raw, but that would be a little hypocritical since we currently don't feed raw here.

We do rotate among many different brands (all grain free 5 star rated on the dog food advisor site) to include as many proteins as possible. One of ours is diabetic so we try to get the highest protein ones (think that they are the lowest carb ones)

Another of ours has moderate to advanced kidney disease (as of yesterday, we now have an official diagnosis of segmental glomerulosclerosis--not good) and we cook carbs & veggies for her & add various raw meats & cooked egg whites for her protein.

I'm so glad Snickers is OK (we feed alot of different foods here, but batteries are NOT on our menu!) and I am glad to learn that the Home Again chip gets you free poison control. I never knew that! One of our has a home again chip--yay!

Hope the bed time snacks work for you. I have a friend whose GSD won't eat breakfast and was getting hunger pukes till my friend started giving the dog a little Redbarn in the morning.
