I knew I wasn't crazy (well, of course I am but not for the same reasons). I asked my mom over and over again to look in her boxes for Shelby's baby album. Why it was at her house, I'll never know but she has most of my photo albums from my youth. She swore time and time again how there was no such album.
But I tore apart her basement yesterday and found it! And then came the tears ... Shelby's firsts, with Santa, with the Easter Bunny, with her costumes, the cards that my mom sent to her (my mom will never have two-legged grandchildren). The baby photos (even though Shelby never really looked like a baby).
I have it with me now and I can't wait to scan some of the photos to have for forever.
But a part of me feels sad. I know I should make an album for Jasper and I need to start thinking about what Jasper will do at Christmas time(we always did Santa photos).... but there is still that disconnect. I will probably get Jasper's photo w/Santa just because and as we grow together, I can see how that all plays out but I want to at least makes sure I commemorate every year.
But Shelby's 'firsts' are in that album that is with me. And I miss her so very much. Tomorrow is 6 months an angel... WOW...

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Ohhhhh that would be a tear trigger for me too! Well, take your pics with Jasper as they feel right. In time you'll find that you end up with 5,000 more pics of her now that everything is digital. That's what happened to us after we got Wyatt, now we have way more pics of him in just 5 years than we ever did with Jerry in 10, and I feel super guilty about that!

Hey, are you back home yet? How did the "vacation" go...for both of you?
Cannot wait to see some of these pictures! Yeah, bittersweet..but what a sacred treasure!!!
Okay...just a little "for whatever it's worth"....once you "disconnect the disconnect in your head you'll feel the connection" with Jasper Lily!!!! Say whaaaaaat!!!
Okay, this I simply based on some of the things you've said in the past. You seem to associate doing special things with Jasper...like dressing her up, etc., ...as somehow lessening your connection to Shelby. They are both loved for different reasons, and sometimes the same reasons. If a mom has twonkids, does she celebrate Christmas with just one, because she thinks it diminishes her love for that kid? Heck no! She treasures the experience with both of them! Maybe Christmas is more fun with one kid because of the way that kid reacts to Santa Claus....and maybe Easter is more fun with the other kid becausenofnthe waynit reacts tonthe Easter Bunny! Okay...not trying to be politically correct...just trying to make a point! Does a mom make a baby album just for her first kid and not the other one?
Your ability tonlove is soooo expansive Alison! Don't deny your self of one of your greatest gifts. And ifnyou don't feel that way about Jasper lily...just make it be for the right reasons...not because of a blockage that causes you to separate yourself from your great capacity to love. Shelby does not want you to be denied of a loving and fun relationship with Jasper! That's why she picked her fornyou! Here is no way you cannot love that dog!
Okay......off my soap box!
Sending you so much love!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Allison- Not much different than those of us with more than 1 human kid. 1st one gets the beautiful, completed baby book. The second one worries that she was adopted because she doesn't have one. Actually she went digging in the basement over the weekend and found a bunch of pictures of herself, her life is now complete...Tough to be 15!
As far as costumes and pictures as Jerry said- "take them when they feel right". It is obvious that Jasper does not need the glamour that Shelby did lol. Take it slow and don't agonize about it. So happy you found the album.
Laurie
I have way more pictures of Sassy & Bosch than I do my Doc & Shadow. Digital was just coming out and I can't find all my pictures I know I have them. I just don't have them like I do all these guys. I don't put Sassy's stuff on either of the girls that is hers. Yes, I will probably try to get them some costumes or something.
I agree with Sally... Just go with it and feel it. Each kid is their own. You have that feeling just sometimes you over think it

"You aren't doing it TO her, you are doing it FOR her. Give her a chance at life."
LOL Laurie!!! That is hilarious!!! I am an only child and I have thought I was adopted too! And you're right - Jasper doesn't need any additional bling!
You're right Sally ... each are different and we can create new memories. I didn't have digital w/Shelby so I don't have as many photos so her album was a true blessing to find. I am back and Jasper is back from the vet. She didn't go to Seattle this time. She did great at the vet for her first time boarding. Up until yesterday - she's got some diarrhea and she scratched her nose raw on her cage after her bath. But she's very happy to be home. She has been rubbing her face on every thing in my apt (carpet, beds, couch).... you know how dogs do after a bath?
But I think the holidays will definitely be Shelby's thing if tonight's walk is any indication about how Jasper feels about decorations. We went for a walk and a neighbor has a graveyard set up w/skeletons, headstones, etc... nothing loud or noisy. Just stuff sitting there. Well Jasper stopped dead in her tracks, tail between her legs and barked. Her low warning bark. And then the low growl. And now she is hiding under my bed w/the low growl.
I cannot WAIT until the neighbors put up the inflatable turkey / Santa ... ohhh... Jasper Lily... it's not that scary out there!
And Michelle - you nailed it! I do overthink ... so many things!

Oh Alison, promise me you will video the turkey introduction....please, please! I think humor may be Jasper's thing. She was sent to make you smile and laugh again. What a find to have Shelby's baby album. I am still looking for 2 particular pictures of TY. One is with all of his sisters on my youngest daughter's lap and one from his first bath. I think my daughter has them somewhere in her stuff, as I have pretty well exhausted every possibility in this house, I have an old laptop that i need to get rebooted, as I think there are some on there. I also feel guilty about not having more pictures. I feel like I take pictures almost every day now. Keep that album close, it it a treasure for sure. PS: Jasper can just wear her Resting Bitch Face for Halloween. LOL Love from, Lori and TY

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Awe... thank you all.... AND yes, I will video the inflatable turkey thing ... she's no longer fearful of the graveyard but is spooked about I'm not even sure what... she's acting weird. I blame the full moon. And she is SOOOO going as "resting bitch face" for Halloween.
So these are a couple photos I shared on Shelby's blog yesterday... remember she was about a 6 months/a year when I got her so not a full puppy but still very much a baby!
Her first toy, her sweater (since a dog in the south needs a sweater, right?), playing on my bed and playing/chasing balloons which she hated! The first one is 100% her face - she made that face until the day she passed ... such love in those eyes ... Love my Shelby girl! Such a happy , happy, happy dog! Always! (I love the last one - she was so lean there ... that was short-lived for sure).
