WOW ... I didn't think a birthday would have been as big of a deal but I am so sad... I have limited patience for Jasper right now (her constant chewing of her feet is making me crazy - especially when it wakes me up at 2 a.m.).
Shelby and I always celebrated her made-up birthday. I updated her blog today: http://mom2shel.....eview=true (which has some adorable photos of her as a total baby).
But I will do my best to celebrate ALL of Shelby's happy years and her gifts to me - to Be More Dog , to love and live life to the fullest and to have no regrets. I have no regrets with Shelby but some days my heartache for her seems to seem insurmountable. When I think how I believe in my little heart she would get to 15 because I had in my mind that is how old dogs live to ... it breaks my heart that she didn't even make 14. But the universe needed her sooner and my daddy was waiting for her (with all our other dogs) and I have her as my guardian angel!

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Itt's not how many years in her life, but how much life was lived to the fullest in her years! And boy oh boy, that Shelby girl crammed in more living in hernyears than most dogs ever get a chance to do!
Wine tasting, trips to the vineyards, dinner out with mom, vacations with mom, movie night with mom, getting dressed up in beautiful, and sometimes outrageous, costumes, chilaxin in the beaxh with mom, sitting ion mom'z"leg lap" and watching the world go by, basically going everywhere with mom and doing everything with mom!
Yeah, a lot of life was lived in those years! Living "longer" but without being able to do all those things because of "senioritis" taking over and all the frailties that xome with it t......nah.....Shelby would not like that!
Merry Myrtle made Shelby a birthday card, but I'm having touble with phoobucket, or maybe it's Verizon...who knows...but Ill try it later!
HUGE lawty going on at the Bridge.....Shelby dancing on the table in everything PURPLE.....feathers, scarves, jeewls...all purple! Pawty on sweet girl!!
Ice cream and cake for all dogs tonight!!!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHELBY!!!!
My husband and I had are weird and used to make songs up for Theo, about just about anything, and his tail would just wag and wag like crazy. But one of the last ones we had before Theo's passing was about a "Puppy Pool Party" that our apartment complex was going to have, and we were super excited about it and trying to think about how to maneuver tripawd Theo in the water...but alas it was cancelled, so we didn't get to share that fun experience with him.
So when I saw it was Miss Shelby's Birthday, my first thought was, Puppy Pool Pawty!!!! I know Shelby loved the beach so hopefully they're having some kind of beachy pool party at The Bridge in her honor!
Now to the tough stuff, the age thing. It gets to me too and it makes me so sad and angry. 15 does seem right, we picture our old, grey, arthritic pups, and maybe hopefully being prepared by then (but I still don't think any of us would've been) and we didn't even get that...we didn't even come close.
But I'm so happy you found her puppy photos, I think it was PERFECT timing- I can't wait to look at the blog! Look over those today and any and all pictures of Shelby and remember her fabulous life with you. Talk to her even tonight, talk about your favorite times together again. Maybe pick up Shelby's favorite human treat and share it with Jasper to celebrate her!!
No matter what, feel the heaviness of today, but celebrate Shelby too!

Happy Birthday Shelby!!!!!! I know that your Mama stuffed 30 years of fun and laughter into 13 and 1/2 years. TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Awww Shelby, up in heaven you will never age or grow old, your adorable puppy face will live on forever and make us smile. Tonight we celebrate your earthly life and your spirit journey too....and we'll raise a glass to your Momma and hey even Jasper Lily, all of you have given us so many gifts here, thank you so much.

Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
Happy Birthday, sweet princess angel Shelby....Alison, I know how you feel about losing your patience with little Jasper.....I find I do the same thing with my sweet Pearl occasionally although I do completely adore her. The one thing I do always remember with Pearl, though, is that she misses Polly too lots of times, and that really helps me be so much more patient with her.
I am gonna celebrate Shelby tonight with lots of chocolate, (too late for wine, now!) but I do have a ton of Halloween chocolate I just bought and will be breaking into that as well as my regular stash......!!
Thank you for being a friend to all of us here, you make this community so very special....and we are all always going to be here for you....hope you feel the pitter-patter of Shelby's happy tail within your heart tonight.....

I have no doubt that Happy Hannah, Polly, Ty, Jake, Lexie, Theo, Leland, Tahoe and Shelby's bazillion other friends got her a huge cake and played the RB equivalent of pin the tail on the donkey, spin the bottle, etc. -- and had a good old time laughing at the antics of Jasper, MM, Daryl, Tanner and the various earthly siblings they sent!
Lots of love to the birthday girl and her heavenly friends, and to Shelby's amazing mom. Pass the chocolate and the wine!
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

I am humbled, my friends, and overwhelmed by the love and support my sweet spirit/angel got on her birthday! Only THIS place will people understand why this DAY was so important and yet hard on me. For that , I am eternally grateful and I am forever touched ...
I try and remain true to Shelby's journey and her legacy is for me to continue to be a part of this world.... it keeps HER alive and it keeps me true to what was the most important journey and job of my life - being Shelby's mom. It was and will always be the greatest honor I have had in my life.
So I ate cookies (gluten free but still) last night, had wine and little JL got a frosty paws .. I felt sick to my belly this a.m. from all the sugar but what's a birthday without some sweets!
So from the bottom of my heart .. I do hope you ALL know how much your words meant to me yesterday, how the tears I had were tears of joy... my Shelby touched so many lives .... many of you only knew her a short time through here but she was so loved by so many ... she will never be forgotten.
