Hi all,
I wanted to share some pics of my first and very beloved pup as an adult, my black Lab Duchess.... It was exactly 15 years ago yesterday, that I lost her, and like all my pups, she will live on in my heart forever. I wanted to post this yesterday, however, I need my husband's help to post pics and he was too busy yesterday....so better late than never.
She was, without a doubt, the smartest pup I will ever have.....which was a good thing...she helped ME raise her from a pup of 7 weeks old. We had more adventures than all my other pups put together, and got me through some very rough times in my life. Even now, I can sit and think of my many happy days with her right up till the end, which I really don't want to think about nor re-visit that pain of her loss. Although she lived just short of 16 years, I wanted more....but I am very truly thankful for the time we had, because I know most people are not as fortunate to have their pups as long as I had Duchess.
The great thing is, once we adopted our daughter, we got a video camera and used it everyday while Emma was growing up with Duchess in almost every video....I will always have this fantastic video collection that was two-fold; Emma growing up and Duchess growing old..... Duchess was very protective of her...and while she loved, loved, loved everyone like a true Lab, she was protective of us. She could also do so many tricks, it was amazing! She also learned to actually know the meaning of many words when we SPELLED them, it was really funny and incredible! Not quite a perfect dog, but darn close.....
Her death was one I thought I truly would not survive, but I did, and went on to share my love with other Lab pups, taking with me everything Duchess taught me along the way....She was the first Queen of my heart, till Polly came along and now shares that space with her....
I also want to mention the untimely loss of a special Tripawd here, that lost her battle way too soon...Sweet Harmony left her family for the bridge yesterday as well, and now shares this sad occasion with my girl....Duchess, Polly, Maggie, and so many others greeted her at the Bridge....Run free and happy, pups......

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Really, really sweet. Thank you for taking the time to share these beautiful memories with us. It just goes to show ya that the memories with wonderful animals we've shared our lives with don't fade, those good times and their spirit remain a continuous presence in our lives even 15 years later.

Duchess clearly had a well lived..and well loved...life. She realy enjoyed playing i n the snow as much as she seemed enjoying playing in the "water".
Bonnie, your heart will definitely be all dog...if it isn't already. Actually I'm pretty sure the reason you have such a huge heart is to gently hold all the pieces of heart that Duchess, Maggie znd Polly left for you. And I KNOW they carried a piece of your heart with them!!
Duchess has transitioned to Spirit now for fiftteen years....and she graced you with her earthly presence for almost the same amount of time. Duchess has never really left you....your bond is just as strong as ever and your connection can NEVER be broken!
Pretty sure they're celebrating with snow cones up at the Bridge tonight!
