I know this will sound crazy, but everyone that knows me well, knows I am a bit nuts anyway......These are Polly's blueberry bushes that I have had for many years, probably since she was about 2 years old. They were always one of her places of canine joy, especially during this time of year when ripe blueberries dropped to the ground....or sometimes, she would just bite them off the branches. Her most favorite thing to do was to "christen" them as much as possible which apparently has always given them a great tangy sweet flavor.
I think they are in mourning for her......I have a bumper crop this year, and they are the most awful tasting berries I have EVER had, and that have ever come off these bushes.....Anyone and everyone that I know in the area where I live, have had the best gardens and produce this summer in a long time, their fruit and berries included. I mean, these blues that I have, you almost have to spit them out......I am disappointed, but in a strange way, my garden is telling me they also miss my girl, and that makes me happy......
Hopefully they will get past their sadness and I will get better berries next summer......I guess I will have to let Pearl start peeing on them now........
Bonnie & her Angel Polly
No, not crazy at all .... it makes perfect sense! Plants are living, breathing things and I am sure they do mourn the occasional "tinkle" from Miss Polly! 🙂
Beautiful garden though ... I couldn't even attempt to grow anything - I even killed a houseplant that was supposed to be un-killable (a cactus)....
Maybe it is time to let Pearl have a go (literally) at the bushes...
Hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
I agree, they need dog pee and dog spit. Of course they miss dear Polly. Sometimes, it is harder outside without them than inside. Sounds as if Polly loved it outside also. This first Summer is especially difficult. The blueberries look awful pretty though. Polly is probably chuckling at the bridge and telling all her angel dog friends, watch this......and watching you spit those berries out onto the ground. Love from, Lori and Ty

She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
I agree they are in mourning. Maybe next years will be better. Polly may send some words down to them to let them know its ok. Yep maybe Pearl does need to spit & pee on them

Bonnie,
I agree, plants do feel. They miss their girl and her bodily fluids. I once compared my out of control horseradish to Maggie's cancer. It kept growing and growing and invading my rhubarb. I really wanted to spray it with a pesticide (chemo) but didn't want to kill my other plants. I really hated that plant. I think it was my way of dealing with the situation. I still have the plant but don't feel as rabid about it as before. I bet you will get beautiful berries next year.
Penny and a Plethora of horseradish
I LOVE THIS POST....AND THE REPLIES ARE ALL MAKING ME SMILE!
We are one crazy butt group of Alumni...and I love crazy!!!!!!
Yep, I agree with all, those blueberries needed Polly' pee and spit to sweeten those little suckers up! She was fertilizing the whole time!
I like Lori's viisual of Polly chuckling with her pals at the bridge! If you can't train Pearl to pee on them.....perhaps hubby?? ....just sayin'......
LOVE!

Penny, I remember very, very well how angry you were with those horseradishes...and I remember replying .........yep, you were ticked! Oh, and that picture you posted of Blink and Han k the other day.....so cute.
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Thanks everyone, for not thinking I'm too crazy, and I actually found a taker for the blueberries......my friend was dropping off her older, sweet cattle dog today to stay at my house for a few days while she is away, (poor Dixie has now been stricken with the ugly "c", so I would rather she had constant care being with me), and my friend brought her young daughter with her, who I baby sit as well. Little Makayla is ALWAYS wanting to pick the blueberries every year when they are ripe, so I warned her that they aren't very good this year.......she asked to pick some anyway, so I told her to pick as many as she wanted. She picked some, put a few in her mouth, and I asked if they tasted ok, she said, "they ARE a little sour, but I want to eat more". I laughed and told her to help herself !!
The other funny thing is, as much as Pearl loves blueberries, too, she will not eat many of these........she must know something is different as well....
Penny, that would have upset me too, the out of control horseradish.......I am sure I would have felt the same as you......
And Lori, I got a huge laugh at the thought of Polly and friends at the Bridge laughing at this blueberry fiasco.....but in all truth, if I know my Polly, as sensitive of a soul that she was here on earth, she would most likely be off by herself and sad, because she would hate to see me upset about anything......she was a very empathetic pup regarding me..... Lord, how I loved that beautiful soul of a dog.........
Love to all,
Bonnie & Angel Polly
