I had off yesterday (and it was desperately needed since I've been burning the candle at both ends - busting my booty to get ready for my vacation and the wedding next - see Shelby's blog AND working my job with back to normal LONG hours). So we got off yesterday for the Jewish New Year and it was a wonderful respite.
Jasper goes to daycare on Wednesdays... it usually is good for about a day or so of tired out pup before the weekend arrives and I can exhaust her - again. But for some reason, she was full of energy yesterday. So I went for my run and came back to 'jumpy-Jasper Lily'. Grabbed her and we walked to our neighborhood coffee shop that is dog friendly so we grabbed an iced tea and sat outside. Aside from her standard "resting bitch face", I think she had fun:
As Bonnie noted, Jasper and I have the same blond (however hers doesn't come from a bottle, lucky bitch).
I went off to run some errands and while I was out, grabbed a few more toys for her. She LOVES her stuffed babies and goes through them quickly. She's still working on one that was Shelby's and she's about to kill it completely and I admit, a part of me dies each time she pulls the fluff out - Shelby never loved that toy as much as the others that are put out of sight - but it was a Shelby toy. But I remember the dog's last will and testament part about gifting the bed, toys, etc... so I let Jasper have her fun.
And this is what we had last night:
Can I just say - this cracks me up. I love how she sits like that and she goes super long ... and she knows that I love it since I laugh and scratch her little booty when she does it! Every single morning when we get up, I come out of the bathroom and she's laying on the carpet doing this and stretching before her walk. I wish I was as good of a yogi as Jasper Lily! And you can see she has her babies, her antler, her bones ..
She still tends to be a bit reclusive at times. I guess I was so used to Shelby being all up in my business 24/7 that Jasper's independence, while welcomed, sometimes makes me concerned if she's happy or not. She is 100% NOT connected to my emotions at all - two nights this week I've had epic crying fits and she's paid no attention. I know she can hear me w/those ears!
And I think we are getting the random barking under control. I don't like barking. I don't like incessant barking. So I've been using a water bottle on her and she hates it. And this was her the other night - sulking because I told her to quit barking and sprayed her a couple times. Pout central.
So we're still finding out groove ... she IS a good little dog for the most part. People come up to me all the time and tell me how pretty she is and ask me what breed she is and I have to explain what a Kelpie is since there is pretty much no Basenji in this one - And she continues to hate/fear riding in the car. If only they could talk ... perhaps then I would figure out what truly goes through her little brain ... ahhh... the wonderful life of Jasper Lily... I hope she likes her forever home!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Lol, Alison !! Between the "resting bitch face" , her frog leg tendencies, and destroying her babies, it is VERY clear to me that she is one very happy pup !! With that conquered, I am sure, without a doubt, everything else will fall into place with the barking, riding in your car, and emotional connection......just one day at a time, and before you know it, everything will click. Promise. Ok, well maybe that riding in the car thing will take a bit more time..........
Much Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly
She is just too cute! I call the stretch the rug. Chandler does it still and he looks like a big rug on the floor.Gald to see that we are not the only house that goes through stuffier like water. At least JL doesn't eat them. Is is funny how different each pup is. Chandler is sort of I dependant, Daryl, I am still trying to figure out and Lucy is halfway up my butt 24/7. We had people over last night and there was Chandler stretched out on the floor, Daryl running around greeting everyone and Lucy was doing her hyperventilating running all around the sofa. Glad they like dogs LOL hugs from Lori and TY
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Ok, Jasper wins hands down for cutest ears!!!!! My Jake was very in tune with my emotions, Tanner (like Jasper) not at all. I think when they live on the streets and they are used to shutting out the world, that's just how they are. I got a HUGE smile on my face when I read you walked to the local coffee shop with her :)))))))

Such a fun read! Always look forward to your adventures with Jasper Lily! And Happy Jewish New Year!!!
Love the licture of you two! I love how she looks straight into the camera...just like you know who! And she nestles in your arms just like you know who!! And your hair color does match!!!
The frog leg stretch....sooooo cute! Yeah, she's a very content dog!!!
After looking at her pot picture...awwww....let jer bark every now and then!!! After all, she doesn't squirt you with water everytime y ou talk!!!
She...and you....have come such a long way in a short time!!! She'll tune into your emotions at some point. Little street dogs probably didn't see too many humans crying!
I missed Shelbys latest blog...gotta go track it down! Your Shelby necklace shows up very nicely. I really, really like that picture....I think this will be one of those "treasured" pics.
Always sending hugs snd love!
Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Well we're not Jewish but we definitely enjoyed a 'bonus' day off since school was closed!
@ Lori - too funny about Lucy... I got barked at yesterday by at corgi - like hard core, aggressive I am going to herd you into a wall barking! I thought of you and Lucy's herding ...
@ Elizabeth and Sally - you are probably right. As a 'street dog' she probably had to fend for herself and disconnect from the world. Shelby was a shelter pet but Shelby had only been at the shelter a couple days after being found on the street but Shelby had lived w/a family. she was fixed, trained, pretty much housebroken ... shelby just got lost from her first family and she was my lucky fine. When I think of what Jasper went through/has gone through in her short life (I keep forgetting she's still a baby at about a 1 1/2), she was only in the hoarding house for about a month or so, then her foster for 2 months and now w/me for almost 4. So that's 7 months so I am guessing 1/2 her life must have been on the streets of Mexico. I am surprised she survived as long as she did.
And Sally, I had to laugh about her spraying ME w/the water bottle when I talk too much! Ha ha! I think that's probably why she puts herself to bed (under my bed until I come in there) ...
Oh and Lori, we went through THREE toys in less than 24 hours. I am guessing the toys from Ross Dress for Less, while a bargain, aren't the best for her... they disintegrate WAY too easy and Jasper got her dew claws caught on the threads (she's getting those clipped this week)! Back to the 2 for $5 @ Petco!

Awwww what a great way to spend a day off. I'm cracking up when you describe her independent/reclusive streak, she is so much like Wyatt Ray that I can't help but think that maybe it's just a personality trait that some dogs who've had a hard time in life pick up. They either get super clingy or go the opposite. I'm no behaviorist, but I can only imagine that she and Wyatt both shared a lot in common when it comes to their ruff start in this world.
As for her car riding phobia....you may want to check out the calming cap. It's ridiculously silly looking but it has made a HUGE difference for Wyatt in the car. Forgive me if I've mentioned this before, I'm just such a fan of how it works!

Haha Jill & Erica asked if we were waterboarding him in that pic! Well thankfully he only needs the cap now when we do his nails, no more muzzle, he gave up on eating our hands. Whew!

Ha ha!!! That's great!!! I should get her one.
And LOL @ waterboarding - that's what I feel like I am doing when I get her w/the water bottle... but the barking! Oy... it needs to chillax. I can handle the low growl if she wants to do that but the barking.. no fun! no beuno!

Yeah the Calming Cap is Wyatt's magic mask, it's saved our sanity, especially at the vet's office!
We tried the spray bottle with Wyatt and all that would happen is it would get him wet, which he doesn't mind at all.
