Millie was sent to the bridge Friday 9/27. Saturday morning we had an email from the dal rescue we work with. A little deaf girl needed a place to stay; could we take her till November? Apparently the shelter she come from called a former adopter who said she would take the dog but could not do so until her house was finished being built, the beginning of November. WHDR stepped in and offered to house the dog until then. The lady was very grateful and offered to help pay for her expenses until then but also said if we could find her a different home, she would be OK with that.
So, we have 18 month old Regan until someone else wants her! She is at times very affectionate and at times very bossy! She is ALWAYS full of energy!!! Working on some training with her. She needs manners an needs to learn not to growl or bite every time her collar area is touched. Not sure what she is so worried about but we have made some progress with that. It is obvious that her previous owner taught her some hand signals, so we are reinforcing what she knows (which includes "sit") & then will build on that.
Sorry so big; i need to learn how to resize...

Regan sure is a cute girl. I know bringing a young pup into the home after the passing of a beloved Tripawd can definitely bring some much needed distraction from the hurt.
We brought Lucian home around a month after we had to let Leland go because the house was so empty and quiet. Lucian is 4 1/2 months and definitely keeps my husband and I busy. We're able to laugh at his antics but we do still tear up because we miss our boy Leland.
Perhaps Regan will find a way into your heart and she won't have to move to another home. You won't be replacing Millie like we aren't trying to replace Leland...we just want to be able to smile again and fill a little of the huge void that our beloved Tripawds leave when they move on.

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Well said Sahana!
REGAN is beautiful! And no pictures of dogs or cats can EVER be too big around here!!!
We know you miss Millie terribly. I just smile e c erytime I see her lovely avatar picture. But what a way to carry on a life affirming legacy in her honor! Millie DEFINITELY sent n you this "unique" distraction...err.....I mean...err...DOG!!
I cannot even begin to imagine what Regan's world was like if she was in the hands of a bad owner. So scary for her. Clearly someone caused pain whenever they leashed her with a collar.....heck...coukd have been one of those spike collars...or maybe she was just chained and left in the elements.
You are sooooo compassionate. I know to bring a dog into your world right now is difficult....and exactly what you and Regan needed! Millie is laughing!!
When you can, we'd love to see more pics of Millie, your beloved Grey...and...Regan!!! What a crew!
Hugs and love!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Our home is far from empty (there are 5 residents and a care for life foster & those are just the dogs), but having to focus on extra exercise and training really is a nice distraction. We really don't want to keep Regan though. Been thinking about not replacing our dogs as they pass (Dee Dee the foster has cancer, Spunky has kidney disease, Jolene is 10 & has diabetes, Peaches is just old & Splash our youngest is approaching seniorhood at 8 yrs old). Will likely do more fostering plus we board dogs here & hope to do more of that. I'm POSITIVE a foster will come through here that I just can't let go of (certainly wouldn't be the first time), but I don't think Regan is the one.
Random things have made me tear up over Millie (I find the same is true about my dad--November will be three years). The night we put her down, as we were driving home from taking her body to the vet, the sky was a mix of purple & orange and had a crazy "brushed" looking pattern to it. I told Lynelle that's because Millie's tail (which had always been packed with extra batteries) was wagging like crazy. The other night the sky was the same color, not the same pattern but the same color & it made me cry.
I cry a lot in the car. I guess that's when I have time to think...

Awwww what a neat gift from Millie! She sounds wonderful and no foster pawrents could be better. Sounds like you have experience with deaf dogs? Pretty neat that she has you for a home even if it's just temporary. Foster pawrents are a special kind of saint, you are amazing.
As for the random moments....yeah, they do happen and often over the seemingly littlest things. But it's those "little" things like the color of the sky that our animals try to remind us each and every day...those little things are SO special, we just rarely take the time to notice. That was Millie reminding you. She's never far.

Only a little experience with deafies. A foster a few years back was deaf. I suspected it but she did things that made me sure she could hear, so i wasn't sure. Her adoptive mom had her BAER tested & found she was 100% bilaterally non hearing.
One of our guest dals is deaf (his owners are the above adopter's daughter & son in law). He does absolutely nothing to make me think he can hear or has ever had any training. His name is Cole, but we call him Ferdinand (the bull) at our house!
And Millie lost most to all of her hearing as she aged, but she was such a good girl it was not big deal. She really made an effort to keep her eye on me & understood various gestures/signals & so calling her back was very easy. She didn't really do much wrong so c'mere was really the only command I needed to give her.

Ohhhh what a cutie!!! I know Millie is beaming with pride looking down at you guys. That story with the texture of the sky like it was brush stroked because Millie's tail was wagging, beautiful. She was painting the sky for you. My Jake was hand signal trained. He wasn't deaf, he was just so darn teachable that I couldn't resist. You guys truly are Saints!
