Lucian did FANTASTIC at the campground during our beach vacation. We went to Wilmington, NC and found a great dog friendly beach at Fort Fisher. We weren't packed on the beach like sardines and the beach was clean and we were able to park right there. We went to check the beach out on one day and then went back the following day a little more prepared with extra water, chairs, and a sheet for Lucian to sit on. Lucian was not sure about the ocean and all the waves. Dad had to do a lot of coaxing to get Lucian out into the water because we needed to get him cooled down. As long as dad held onto him he did ok. Lucian didn't mind the water coming up around him but what he didn't like was the undertow when the waves went back out. It was pretty strong because I was stumbling around like a drunk....
At the KOA campground Lucian met several different people and doggies. Most dogs were friendly with him but there was a mean little dachshund who growled at Lucian which scared him so he stood behind dad while we chatted with the other man. Then I was out sweeping off the outdoor carpet after walking Lucian around the campground. I had Lucian hooked to a cable and this elderly lady with 3 little dogs comes by. Lucian of course is standing at attention watching these dogs pee on the tree he's peed on. The lady starts to talk to Lucian so I walk around to hold onto the cable in case she gets too close with her 3. Well, her Chihuahua is not nice and is growling and barking at Lucian. So this little poodle of hers gets in on it. Then she lets this little blind dog wonder up to Lucian...he bends down to sniff the dog and it growls and kind of snaps at him so he lets out a growl of his own. I'm dragging Lucian back over to the carpeting so the woman will move on. Lucian did meet a 6 month old Pyrenees and they had a blast together...for what fun they could have a dog leash. They got along really well and the Pyrenees kept putting a paw up on Lucian's shoulder...it looked like he was trying to hug Lucian. The lady and I talked for a long while. She had lost her previous dog Max to hermangiosarcoma and the Pyrenees whose name is Bo was helping them with the grief of their loss much like Lucian has done for us with our loss of Leland.Â
We had a wonderful time in NC and Lucian did so well with traveling (it took us like 9 hours to get there). He's turning into a really good traveler.
Here are some pics from Lucian's beach adventure and his Birthday which was May 17.
ÂYou want me to go out there...are you crazy dad?!?!?!
Darn it's HOT out here!
I see you seagulls! If I wasn't on this leash I'd chase your feathered butts all up and down this beach!
Just watchin the waves and chillin!
Now you got me out here...don't you dare let go!!
I'm serious...keep that arm around me dad!
I love and trust you dad! This is one of my favorite pics.
Who knew the beach could be sooo exhausting! I love my A/C!
It's my Birthday...I think I'll sleep in!
Mmmmm...birthday cake with whipped icing!! Delicious!!
Just being a total goof ball!
Tellin mom what's on my mind!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Happy Birthday Lucian. I am glad you had a great time camping & at the Beach. Try looking into a life jacket for him. We had to buy them for Bosch & Sassy (I might add too late after Sassy about drowned herself by jumping into the deep end looking for me). I will tell you the story sometime don't want to hijack the post. Believe it or not some dogs can't swim or are afraid so the life jacket may make him feel more comfortable.Â
It looks like he did really well with the beach and the campground. Some people just don't understand their dog. Amazing that more times than not its the little dog that barks & snarls at our dogs.
Â
I love each & everyone of these pictures

What a great trip! Â Looks like Lucian and the family had a great time. Â The photos of Lucian sleeping in the car and on the bed are pretty familiar; that's how our pooches look after a day at Carmel Beach! Â There is something about the beach that just wears out everyone!! Â Happy Birthday handsome boy!!
Happy Birthday and Happy Vacation! You were MEANT for the beach... You need to come visit me and JL - we could have an ear contest!Â
I love the photo of him in the bed.... so proud... looks like royalty! He's just so regal!Â
Now where are the mother/photos?Â
So glad you all had a great trip and the campgrounds weren't a bad experience. Even though I have a little dog (17 pounds) I've never really thought of having one of those "little dogs"... neither Shelby or Jasper has that yappy manner and I can't stand that! Considering Jasper's almost had her booty handed to her by a yappy dog - much more PITA like behavior! But glad Lucian held is grow and showed how well behaved we ALL know he is.Â
Jasper is thinking that cake looks super yummy......Â
Thank you for sharing so many amazing photos of your trip! Looks like you had a blast and we missed you but glad you got out on the road!
Much love,
alison with spirit shelby in her heart (and little jasper too)Â

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Well I forgot the digital camera (hubby can somewhat operate that one) so all I had was the camera on my smartphone. Â Forget hubby operating that. So unfortunately no pictures of me and Lucian together. ..
Heck hubby still has me deleting his call history out of his flip phone. He can operate and fix heavy machinery but a cell phone camera. ..not happening. .
