Lucian is just like the child that if he can find trouble he will!!  With as much as I've been taking him to vet lately if he were a child the doctor may start wondering if I'm a fit mom...lol!

So the other weekend I'm outside with Lucian going around the flower beds shoveling up fungus that's growing in the mulch.  Since we've gotten so much rain I have mushrooms and other things growing in my mulch...whatever

So Lucian is with me and I'm getting fungus up from around one of the down spouts.  We hear rattling so I'm thinking there's a mouse or some other critter in the down spouts.  Lucian of course starts digging.  That's when hell broke loose with baby yellow jackets.  Lucian takes off running and wiping his face in the ground.  I'm standing there dumbfounded as to what these things are because they don't look like bees to me.  Then I get stung and I'm cursing a blue streak across the yard (I only got hit once) and trying to get this thing off my arm.  That sucker burned like crazy for days so I can only imagine how poor Lucian felt since they swarmed around him.

I tell hubby about what happened and that I had no idea what sort of bee these things were.  I told him they looked silver in color to me.  So we go around the side of the house and of course they're no where to be seen but poor Lucian is licking and biting at his leg.  I get him and I both inside to get some Benadryl.  Hubby stayed out there trying to figure out what's going on and he came back later and said they were baby yellow jackets and those suckers are fast and nasty.  There was a nest built in the ground by one of my ornamental grass clumps which explains why a side of it is dying off...mad

So hubby went out at night with a flashlight and a spray can of parts cleaner and doused the nest...clap Take that you nasty bees!!

Now Lucian has had this lump on his right thigh for about a week.  It wasn't getting better and I thought it was getting bigger.  Hubby as usual thinks I'm being paranoid because I want to take Lucian to the vet.  Last summer Lucian bit at a bee and still had part of the stinger in his lip that Dr. Wilt had to cut out.  So I'm thinking he must have a stinger(s) stuck in him from the bee attack.  I made the apt for the following Saturday (which would be today).  I told hubby if the lump didn't go away by then Lucian is going to the vet.  Well, last weekend he started licking and biting at it and it was oozing.  I told hubby that's it I'm calling Monday to get him seen because I'm not letting him sit with a possible infection in his leg.  Dr. Wilt was able to see him Tuesday and he aspirated the lump and made sure it wasn't cancerous...which it isn't thank goodness.  He gave Lucian a Kenalog injection into the wound and poor Lucian was flinching...sad Dr. Wilt said if it hasn't gone down in about 7 days then he'll have to go in and cut it out because there's probably a stinger in there.

So both hubby and I agree that it has gone down.  It just looks kind of nasty right now because it's scabbing over.  Here's what his leg looks like...

After we got his rash all cleared up now we have this.

And I was able to get a couple of cute selfies with Lucian.  Since I'm the only one who knows how to operate the cameras I'm always taking the pics.  I was so happy to get these couple pics of me with my boy!

"Yeah...I know I'm handsome!"

"CHEESE!!"

"Seriously Mom...you're taking ANOTHER picture?!?!"

YAY for finally seeing a photo of YOU!!! You guys are too cute!!!!

BUT OMG ... that's WAY too much nature for me! I've never been stung so I cannot even imagine. That's awful and poor Lucian. I can only imagine Jasper would do the same .... she's a curious one! I would have been right to the vet on that one so I get it. That poor little guy. He does seem to get himself into some interesting predicaments. 🙂

I hope he's feeling better soon! Hugs and love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

LUCIAN!!!! LUUUUUUCIAN! You are one wild and crazy boy!!! "Mischief" is your friend!

That Leland must be laughing his butt off at all your little messes you are always getting yourself into!

There's a whole lotta' muscle in that leg so that must have been one strong baby bee! Yellow jackets lack a mighty big wallop!

And Lucian, yoh are a very, very handsome boy and it's okay if you know it! It's hard to ignore the obvious! And the one of you saying cheese"...ADORABLE!!! Great pictures Sahana! And you are just as photogenic as Mr. Lucian!!!

Alright Lucian, you stay out of trouble, okay? Yeah, right! Btw, I'm sending you and your mom some protective bee keeping outfits. Looks like you have a new career in the making.way-cool

Love to you both!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

PS...Alison...never stung by a bee? Never encountered ticks before? Have no idea what 100° weather feels like or 5° cold? And wanted to teach Jasper Lilly to poop on demand and would freak out if you have a bit of puppy latte and slobber dribble down your car? We've gotta' get you outta' California and into the adventures of country living!!!! I LOVE YOU ALISON! YOU ABSOLUTELY CRACK ME UP AND I ADORE YOU FOR IT!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Love the pictures, he looks SO happy!!!! I swear I think our fur baby's are conspiring to send us crazy dogs, and getting a kick out of it too. Every single one of us has gotten a dog that is a bit of a handful LOL.

Poor Lucian, glad he came out of it okay. Hank has gotten stung many times. Here is where he got it in the face and the day before he got stung in the butt twice. Those are very attractive pictures of the 2 of you. And Alison you need to come spend a week with me where you will get stung by bees and hornets, stepped on by a horse and find ticks in places you never thought they could get to.

Oy!!!! I think Jasper and I will hang here by the beach where the most we get is fleas! 🙂

Shelby got a tick  - once - when we went hiking. But nope, never been stung by a bee yet I do see them! I just run and hide! LOL

Lucian's adorable ...he's got such a long nose!!!!

Jasper and I are city girls ... we like our country friends but we're not 'country enough' to survive that kind of 'wild-life'. And Sally, I went to college in Missouri so I've seen/experienced 5 degrees ... bbrrrrrrrr... I like to 'visit' snow! 🙂

HUGS and love all around. ....

Oh my goodness poor Hank! ! Back when Leland was a pup he got stung around the eye and nose. He swelled up like Hank. They look like they went a round in the boxing ring way-cool

I think it's going to take Lucian a while to learn to leave flying insects alone.  Yesterday we were hanging around outside before the heat kicked in. I guess some honeybees thought it would be a good time as well to be on the clover that's in the yard.  Lucian is laying there being good until he sees the bees.  Then it's game on to try and eat them.  Needless to say he spit the bee out pretty quick.  I asked him if he was ever going to learn. ..He just looked at me.

This boy is adding to my gray hairs sad

LUCIAN! You are so full of mischief! While your mom is getting grey hairs, we are having a ball laughing at your antics!

But you goota stay away from anything that buzzes, okay?
