and they haven't called for me to come and get her yet so I take that as a good sign. Kidding, I knew she would do well.
Actually, she did better than expected when I dropped her off. Remember my first few weeks/days with Jasper and she was such a clinger - and I was desperate for another dog that was independent like Shelby? Shelby loved everyone upon meeting them - would have sold me out to the highest bidder! I was not used to a dog that wasn't as outgoing in her personality.
Today when I got to daycare, Jasper ran right up to the guy behind the counter and tried get cuddle with him when he got down to her level. He had never met her before but had heard about the 'sweet little dog named Jasper Lily' - I said joking, you mean her?! 🙂
Then we went outside around the back to the little dog area and another guy came for her and she ran right up to him too and up the stairs - never looking back. Beaming with pride - she didn't even say goodbye!!!! It is amazing to see her get some confidence!
She still goes a little nutty in the car (she rides on the floor as far under the dash as she can get) yet she freely hops into the car (only the floor, I don't let her jump higher and even that I try to avoid). But when I go to pick her up outside, she tinkles and usually on ME!
She still submissive pees when we've been apart for a long time (like when I get home from work, etc). I rush her outside w/out her leash and try and get her to the courtyard so at least if she pees, it's outside. The vet STILL says she will outgrow that!
All in all ... vast improvement for 7 weeks ... I am very proud of her (of both of us actually). Shelby, you knew what you were doing here!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Jasper is like a butterfly, coming out of her cocoon !!
Too funny! When I picked her up, they told me she was a social butterfly today. She went up to everyone for pets and cuddles (ala Shelby). Then another handler told me that my dog was the sweetest dog - ever! I had to make sure we were talking about the same dog! 😉
She is coming along a lot better than I could have ever expected ... behold the power of Miss Shelby's spirit and a little TLC from her madre!
Thank you to EVERYONE who supported me and us and encouraged me to give her more time ... you're right... I don't regret this decision anymore.
XO

Yay Yay & more Yay. Shelby's guiding light. She is showing Jasper the new way to enjoy life. I am so glad you gave her a chance to come out of that shyness. She will over come that peeing. She will out grow it.

And n case you didn't read Jerry's two post........"She's going to be class president and prom aueen in no time"! tee hee....
This is such a "warm fuzzy" update on you and Jasper Lily! I love that she continues to develop, and show, different aspects of her personality. Shelby knew Jasper Lily would earn your love....and she has been working very hard to earn your love...but Shelby warned her about the fact you would be a hard nut to crack!
I bet.being in doggy day care will do a world of good for her, for your relationship, for her interraction with people and different places.
Going to read your blog.....there had better be some pictures over there missy!

Thank you all! Yup, Sally, photos on her blog! Sadly I didn't get any first day of school photos (mommy fail). But I did get some great shots of her petrified in the car! LOL
She'll go once a week ... on Wednesdays. Unless I need to work extra late then I'll drop her off an additional day. She had a blast and ironically - not tired or not as tired as I thought she would be. Maybe it will hit her later but she was bouncing off the walls last night. She's a bit manic this a.m. too. Maybe that is her real personality coming through and so much for having a chillax dog?
She's got this new bad habit of taking my pillow (pillow pet that is a New Orleans Saints pillow) and chewing on that instead of her own babies. It's about her size and she carried it across the room today. It was Shelby's favorite pillow so I suspect it smells like Shelby. I know I can get bitter apple spray to get her to stop but it's pretty funny to see her drag it. And if she destroys it, it's fine... it was Shelby's and I don't see Jasper and I sharing that same love of NOLA football together.
She is definitely acting like she 'rules the roost' here and I love that. Her big tail was wagging on her walk and her booty was shaking extra wide! Got to love that extra junk in the trunk she carries ...
Yup, Shelby was always the wise one. She knew exactly what she was doing.
You know how parents always say they forget about the 'pain of childbirth' when they get pregnant and have another kid? Well I don't have kids but I have had the intense pain of the loss of my soul mate and while I can still recall those emotions and I know that I will also (god willing) outlive Jasper, somehow going down that journey again doesn't seem quite as paralyzing... Thank you Shelby Lynne! My BFF for all infinity!

Such a wonderful posting. I'm so happy to hear Jasper is blossoming and coming into her own!! I think it's great how social she's becoming with people she meets. In the early weeks she seemed so timid but man is she getting some confidence.
I'm so happy for you both and I'm so proud of Jasper and what she's accomplished in the short time she's been with you. It's definitely shows you're an AWESOME mommy and she is really trusting you!!
Keep up the good work Jasper!!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
Yeah Sahana and Leland, this is a wonderful post. You always express yourself so well Alison...and the visual of Jasper stutting her junk and wrestling the pillow...you KNOW we HAVE to jave video!!!
I picture Jasper Lily more of a tennis fan than football anyway! And hey, wasn't the New Orleans Saints who got paid if they "killed" my hero BRETT FAVRE the Super Bowl a few years ago??? Go ahead Jasper Lily, rip that pillow to shreds and I'll send you a gallon of ice cream!!!!
Love to you sweet Alison...to the moon and back and all infinity!
