Well it was inevitable. My husband announced yesterday that he needed money because he was getting an 11 week old German Shepard. I was not happy!  I left for work this morning telling him that I was against this, and he better be on his game, as I was not ready for another little one. Remember Toby was my Christmas present last year. Logan is a senior (8), and has arthritis. He said it was because he missed Jake. Well we all miss Jake, but a puppy would NEVER take his place.  At this writing we have an 11 week old male black German Shepard pup. He is cute and all, but I know what this means for me.  The thrill will wear off, and the good Daddy and my kids will lose interest. I tried to tell him that Jake would bring us a dog when the time was right. He tried to convince me that Jake did bring him. I don't want to replace Jake, nor am I ready to have the life sucked out of me by a new mouth to feed and clean up after, and take to the vets, and on and on.  I know I sound negative, and I also know that I will love this little guy. Alison I think you went through this when you got Jasper Lily. Thanks for listening!

Forgive me for LAUGHING OUT LOUD!!!!

And forgive me for siding with your husband in saying JAKE sent you this puppy!!!

And forgive me for saying....yeah, you are exactly right about the "good daddy, kids, etc. losing interest" and you really have your work cu out for you on so many levels........

And forgive me for saying this puppy will NOT suck the life out of you. He shall, howver, put life and smiles and color back into your home...and even perk up your senior Logan a bit too!

German Shepard puppy???? I can't help but think Jerry, along with Jake, were in cahoots with hubby....a hubby right now who is in the doghouse!!!

Sleep with puppy tonight...and keep hubby in the doghouse!!way-cool Waking up to PUPPY BREATH !!! Yeah, much better than morning hubby breath!!

LOL .... grinning over here!!! Yup, I did go through this with miss Jasper Lily and I just have to say .... look how well that has worked out! :-) She is not the love of my life or even close BUT she makes me laugh, smile, get out of bed... yup, Shelby knew what she was doing.

I don't know that I could have handled a puppy though... Oy...

It does take time, as you know, and they never replace the ones we lost... hell, I cry daily still for my Shelby but I know that Shelby wants more smiles than tears and .... cue Jasper!

BUT puppy breath ... a whole new world ... a new experience!!!! I can't wait to see photos... puppies are the cutest!

Hugs and love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Laurie,

Sorry I had to laugh too. I did want another dog to be a companion to Blink but I wanted an older rescue dog. But nooo hubby was sure if we got an older dog they would die of cancer. He wanted a male puppy, yikes. I really prefer females but we take turns on who gets to choose so now we have this crazed 10 month old Weim running around and hubby works 12 hour shifts so I really can relate. I bet you will fall in love and in time the other pups will too. What's his name and we need PICTURES!!

Oh boy oh boy! Well, sometimes ya just gotta take the plunge. You'll be fine, you're an awesome pawrent.

We are a little partial to those pointy-eared Rin Tin Tin types as you can see, but yes, they are a LOT of work. The good thing is you are bringing him home at a critical age where your existing pack mates will show him how to grow up to be a very good boy. Like any furry youngster, he'll find a place in your heart and bring you even more great times. Pictures please!

Laurie,

I do understand where you are coming from, however, I guess I also agree with everyone that this WAS a gift from Jake. And no, this sweet GSD pup will never take the place of your boy, but I do know you have an enormous amount of love in your heart to give this young guy. I am somewhat like Jerry/Rene, I have a special soft spot for G Shepherds.....they are awesome companions.

Just take one day at a time, and before you know it, this new addition will take over your heart and you will look back and think "how could I ever have said no way to you"......!!

Oh Laurie,

I can feel your trepidation with having a puppy.  We brought Lucian home at 10 weeks old and boy they are a handful.  After Lucian I don't think we can go through puppyhood again.  Granted I was kind of the one wanting to bring another furkid into the home (we only have one dog at a time) because the house was so sad and quiet after Leland passed.  Hubby has always been the one  thinking they need to be puppies so they can grow with us and their personality can develop into a positive one.

But on the upside your new addition will bring you many laughs with his quirky puppy antics.  My husband and I just shake our heads and laugh at the silly things Lucian does.  Yes he is A LOT of work and sometimes I want to throttle him but he has brought happiness back into our home and that's what his job was.

HUGS!!!

And like everyone else I can't wait to see some pictures!!

Laurie....

to that little puppy.. you are the world.. he loves you to the moon and back because he can...  he didn't know Jake... he doesn't know what big paws he will need to fill.. all he knows is that he has been brought into a home where people LOVE.... LOVE.....  L O V E dogs!!!!  What a lucky puppy!!

He could have been bought by someone who will keep him in the backyard with a dog house 365 days a year.... or kept in a pen.. away from the house.. where he would sit behind a chain link fence and watch everyone in the house through the big window that faces him...  or worse yet.. he could have been chained outside... and forgotten when he grows into that "not so cute " puppy anymore..

BUT HE DIDN"T!!!!  Your hubby bought him and brought him home to a house where he will be treated like all doggies should be in families.. a treasured friend... a snuggle bug... and a sock thief!!

LUCKY PUPPY!!!!  and lucky you to get to earn that puppy's love....

Now.. what's his name??? and where are the pictures for us to ooooo and ahhhhhh over??

Christine... with Franklin in her heart♥

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Aghh feeling better today!  We have named him Beau. Yes he has already weaseled his way in to my heart. He is a good boy.  Slept in his crate lol 3 crates in a row from 11 PM - 5:45 AM. Doing well with the potty training.  My husband is off for a few weeks so he is in charge.  He is a mellow boy- kinda offsets Toby who has ADD.  They are getting their pack groove on. Another adventure begins.  Will send pic's as soon as one of my kids shows me how.  Thanks for the encouragement and happy to be the butt of your jokes.

Congrats Laurie!

And I agree with everyone else - Jake DID bring you a puppy - not to replace him but to give you someone else to share your enormous heart and loving home with :)

Looking forward to seeing some pictures!
