Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
Lori,
I'm just smiling like crazy over here!!! I love all the pictures and what a cute pack you have. Darryl looks awesome and he (and you) look so happy!! I'm so glad that things worked out for Darryl and your family.
You and your family are truly special people for being brave enough to take a chance on Darryl...he is one lucky pup for finding his way to your home. And I have no doubt that Ty will be watching over him and leading him along on his new journey with your family.
Congrats!!!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
+1 on what Elizabeth said. Saturday was like Christmas I was so excited to get to this thread, Lori! Happy tears!
I love love LOVE Darryl! (Had company so waited to post until now, and finally fixed tablet editor.) But I've been lurking like crazy.
That face, his expressions, the ears going up in the bottom left pic...and he looks like he's already been with his pack forever.
I don't think I've ever seen such an instant bond...it's beautiful to see. Ty knew *exactly* what he was doing! So happy for you!
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.
Darryl.. yup.. cool name.. I'd leave it.
after all.. I had a Franklin... who in their right name would name a dog Franklin?
Your smiles are contagious.. and it must be right, feel right, will be alright.. cause otherwise you would not be smiling that much!
big congrats.. and kudos to the hubby as well!!!
Christine... with Franklin waggin' in her heart♥
Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012. Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013. Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack... You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!
Yep! Daryl it is! The only other name that even came to kind was Fletcher. Not sure why . The only trouble I am having is his insistence on being up on my bed. It is really high. I am 5' 2" and need a little stool to get in. He comes up with a flying leap. My husband lets him up there with him, I worry about wear and tear on remaining front leg when he jumps down. He still seems ouchy a bit at his amp site and so does not like to be lifted down. Such worry about his leg. Lori, Ty and gang
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
I like Darryl.
As for jumping off a tall bed....not good according to rehab vets. He's still young and you can train him to use a ramp/stairs. It will take time for him to realize it's better, but I'll bet he will be a great student if food is involved!

YAAAAAAAAY. FOR DARYL SLEEPING IN THE BED!!!!! YAAAAAY FOR HUBBY TOO!!!! Guess he figured he'd better make room or else he'd be doing a little "sofa sleeping"!!! Just kidding...so glad hubby is all about Daryl!!! I can just oicture Daryl so pleased with himself as he leaps up i n the bed!! We need video!!!!
Yeah, I worry about my big four legged oaf jumping up and down on my tall bed. I'm gonna try and do a stair or ramp thing too. Sounds like a great solution for Daryl. YAAAAAY for being motivated by food!!
Nothing like this journey to turn you into a crazy worry wart about everything!!!! As Cher would say in Moonstruck...wehave to "SNAP OUT OF IT"!!
PICTURES!!!! WE NEED MORE PICTURES!!!!!!!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Oh Lori, if you figure out how to train him to use a set of stairs to get on your bed please share the secret. Tanner will have nothing to do with the ones we have. He takes flying leaps on and off everything. He'll follow a trail of food but if there is no food, he apparently doesn't see the point. By the way, I'm sitting back seriously chuckling b/c I have a feeling my Tanner is not going to be the only crazy tripawd on here now...I think Jake and Ty will be rolling around laughing together
Mom to Tripawd Angels Jake (2001-2014) and Rosco (2012-2015) and Tripawd Tanner. “Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today; and I'll always remember it”
I'd lower the bed....
hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

Haha I like Christine's idea! Throw the mattress on the floor and it's a pawty for everpawdy in the pack.

Lori,
Daryl is adorable. And talk about weird names. My rescue Weim was named Blink and she was a year old so I felt like I had to stick with it. I end up repeating the name all the time to people. He looks like a great addition to your family, I'm glad he came your way. I bet you will have many stories of his adventures (and pictures, hint, hint) PS I'm also in the ancient category of knowing both Bob Newhart shows.
Penny, Blink, Hank the Terrible and Spirit Maggie
The name has totally grown on me... I love it! It's interesting....
As far as the bed thing, I feel your pain on that one. I also have a high bed and I fear Jasper jumping down. Thankfully, she can't really get up on her own (or she hasn't figured it out yet - to take a running leap) and once she is up, she stays up! But the jumping thing will forever be a fear of mine. Especially since Shelby did suffer a broken leg as a result of jumping into my car and missing it.
Jasper is banned from car leaps as well! But she's 18 pounds so it's easier to manage!
Hugs!
Alison with the Spirit of Shelby fur-ever in her heart (and little Jasper too)
Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.
October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
