Ollie has been doing quite well in his group class. We have one more session on leash and then he will go to the off leash class. We are now able to let him out in the front yard without a leash (under STRICT supervision). He is coming along well, except for an unscheduled walkabout yesterday. He responded quickly to the collar buzz, though.
Stay in place. He was actually supposed to be sitting and found out that worked better than being lazy.
This was a meet and greet with the distraction of the instructor tapping him on the rear end, simulating the action of another dog approaching.
A solid stay with distraction.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Very Impressive!!!!!
I know how much practice that takes. Keep up the good work Ollie (and mom and dad!).

The noisy camera is still here, Sally. These are just iPad videos...so much easier to download. The camera will show back up when we start doing outdoor classes.
The owning the door thing was the very first thing Ollie learned when he came here. Otherwise we would have been landing out the door on our collective butts every time the door opened. He was very good at knocking everyone out of the way. The only downside to instilling this in him is that now we have to walk outside every time he needs to go out, whether we want to or not. LOL!

Do they give PhDs in Doggie Obedience? Cause Ollie sure deserves one! And you get a Medal of Honor, your dedication to making him into the best dog ever is so wonderful. Congrats and thanks for sharing!!!

I think we will wait a bit before he gets that doctorate! We will definitely be going for it, though. He will start his off leash group class next week, and then will have an "outdoor adventure" class, followed by a retrieve class. The school will also have a one day seminar in teaching the WHOA command, which is a new one for us.
As we told our son yesterday, "We don't have a life. We have Ollie." And that is just fine with us.
Thanks for all the applause. We will continue to post updates as we continue his training.

PS. We periodically send one of his updates to the shelter where we got him. They told us one time that we had managed to really surprise them, as they were somewhat concerned about whether we would be able to do what we have with him. I sure hope the people who returned him to the shelter after three days see those updates.

Haha we can relate to that first part.
I'm so glad you are sharing his achievements with the shelter, they must see that so they don't make such sweeping judgements about people's capabilities for other animals. And yeah, may those folks who returned him see how they lost out on a true winner!

We went to Ollie's regular class on Tuesday evening and intended to just observe the off leash class that came after. The instructor brought us chairs and said to just join right in. He is the one who did Ollie's initial private sessions. Ollie did very well for his first time. He does tend to be a bit of a social butterfly, though. The exercise in the video had the instructor setting up the boundary cones and then throwing out a handful of treats, several frisbees and a whole basket of tennis balls. He also had a vacuum going! We had been practicing some of this at home, but not on such a large scale. Ollie did us all proud!
He got to go with me to my youngest grandson's lacrosse game last night. He was pretty distracted to start out with, but settled down on his quilt and behaved himself pretty well. Garry took him to Home Depot a couple of days ago when I was shopping for tile. Ollie got a bit restless, so they headed to the car. They never made it that far, because when they got to the front door, Ollie became an instant "greeter". Everyone who came in just had to talk to him.

This is craaaaazzzzzyyyyyy!!! OFF THE WALL CRAZY!!!! How in the world is it possible?? I tell ua' what, if I was sitting at a tavle and someone threw some cupcakes in front of me and tole me to "sit"..... I'd be all.over that table so fast it no one could stop me.!!
And what makes it even more spectacular, if that's even possible, is this smart boy has to wonder what in the world does anymof this have to do with me being a dog?! It just means that he loves and respects you both so much and wants to make you happy so mich that he is willing to do anything for you! I really believe, I really do, that he KNEW he had the perfect furever home with you two! Poor guy had been bounced around so much because no one was willing to see the beautiful, intelligent Soul underneath those joyful brown eyes. I KNOW Murphy and Gus made this happen! The "e ergy from beyond" is a powerful force!
The only thing wrong with the video is no one stood up and gave him a standing ovation! Err...a bit of jealousy perhaps?
OLLIE!!! WE ARE ALL GIVING YOU A STANDING OVATION TO YOU RIGHT NOW....AND YOUR DEVOTED HUMANS!!!!
I am soooo proud of Ollie and head over heels in love with him, as is the whole community!!!
These videos being so much happiness to this community...and some days we need it more than others. Thank you Ollie, for being your amazing happy self!
Lots of love!

I probably shut the camera off a bit soon. You can just see his instructor start to clap at the very end of the video.
Thanks for all your enthusiastic support of Ollie the Labradork. Or as a good friend called him...the Wonder Dog. We always say that's because we always wonder what he is going to do next.
