After a HORRIFIC and long work week (12 hour days ... eek) the beach always soothes me so I grabbed Jasper and took her down there - expecting her same fear. But she did great - at first ... it's like she had fun until she remembered she hates the beach! LOL
But I got some videos of her having fun... (in the 2nd video, you actually see her smile if you closely).
She looks more spooked that she actually was at this point - BUT she does hate to take 'selfies' with me...
Her biting/nipping/itching has not gotten better so I'll make her a vet appt tomorrow. I don't want to be that 'mom' that takes her in for every little thing but I cannot stand watching her bite her feet, tail, body non-stop... it makes me crazy! My skin is itchy so perhaps that is her deal too. I try and give her something else to 'chew' and sometimes that works but most of the time, she is manically licking at her feet (this JUST started after her being at the vet over a week ago so I am confused)... it's almost like an OCD thing but it bugs me! So of to the vet tomorrow with her ... unless anyone has any ideas?
Cheers!
Alison with the Spirit of Shelby fur-ever in her heart (and little Jasper too)

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
WoooHoooo Jasper Lily...look at you rockin it on the beach!!! You're figuring it out that nothing bad is going to happen and no scary sea creatures are going to rise up out of the water. Now lets work on committing this to memory so we know we don't have to be scared every time mom takes you back.
Hugs!

May you finally be healthy and running free at the Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again my sweet boy!
YAAAAAAAAAY!! JASPER LILY REALLY IS ENJOYING HERSELF!!! That happy wagging tail has me grinning ear to ear! Wagging and smiling and just bouncing with confidence!!! Loving this!!!
The itching thing......hmmmmm......so many possibilities. Could be something she picked up at the vets for sure....or an allergy to something. If it's jist the feet (the top of the paws), that can be a boredom issue. I really doubt that though. It actually has a name and it involves just licking and biting the tops of their paws.
I really think there has to be a connection to the vet though. Does she have a flea allergy. Ine single flea bite can drive them insane if they do.
Thanks for sharing these DELIGHTFUL videos! The two of you have come sooooo far in such a short time! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Shelby is just loving watching the whole scenario unfold!
Love to you and Jasper Lily!
Sally and Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Could be fall allergies starting up but I've also been reading about dogs who seem to have spinal misalignment biting b/c they have weird sensations that need a chiropractor to fix. Course, I read this on a chiro's page,s o take it for what it's worth
Our foster dog broke out into hive s& has her front all scratched up. been in PA since July with no issues. Moves to maryland & is a wreck after just 3 days being here. It started with her ears but now it's all over

oh what fun! Look at her tail go!!
Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. "Like" Jill's facebook page: https://www.fac.....tty?ref=hl Proud member of the WINTER WARRIORS!!!! Her blog can be read at http://jillsjou.....ipawds.com. xoxo
I love watching her tail wag a mile and minute!! What a happy girl!
Theo went through a weird itchy phase once, it was his belly and his paws. We couldn't figure it out to save our lives. The paw licking drove me crazy too, so I would put socks on his feet and then give him a bone. I just kept giving him frequent oatmeal baths which would help for awhile...but nothing else helped. Eventually it just went away. All my vet could say was seasonal allergens. But totally understand your frustration!
Chandler does this also. He actually gets what is called a lick Granuloma on a paw every spring and Fall. He is allergic to everything! Foods included. I am thinking that there is something he walks through. I have heard also, that inhaled allergens can cause this. I spray him with Hydrocortisone spray. Maybe wiping her paws? Is she red anyplace else. Chan is red on belly and inside ears too. Hugs from, Lori and Ty
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Oh, I knew she would learn to accept the beach experience, just took some time, and will probably take a little more time to really enjoy being there.....Alison, that pic of her and you is awesome....there is joy in your eyes and happiness in hers. Thanks for sharing these pics and videos with us !!
Hope her itchy problems are resolved soon......
Much Love,

OMG - she loves to eat socks! If I put socks on her, she would eat her way through them! LOL
I am taking her to the vet tomorrow. I just want to get her checked out. Her eating/drinking/business is fine and I don't think it's a food allergy (at least not what I am feeding her). No redness or anything. Her nails look filed down to a normal level. She just seems to do it ... a lot.
@ Lori - I will ask about that. It does seem to have come on as 'fall' arrived (via calendar, not really in LA). I can't imagine what she would walk through and then put it in her mouth! Oy!
We haven't even gotten near the water yet in our beach therapy time! LOL .... soon, I hope. She doesn't seem to mind puddles around the hood (Shelby hated them).
And thank you Bonnie - she does make me pretty happy ... in a different way. Are you sure that is joy or delirium from being exhausted from work?! Ha ha!!! those are some tired eyes and some wicked crows feet. Jasper looks 'spirited' ... she's a happy girl.
Much love my friends!

Go Jasper! So many good smells at the beach- I know she will grow to love it.
Obie was diagnosed with doggie OCD. He licks his front feet and the air A LOT and at the same time every day. He licks faster if he gets agitated too. His original owner kept him in a carrier (not even a crate) for hours at a time- he had nothing to do but lick. Oddly, he has never caused himself injury or a lick granuloma. He doesn't like grass and rarely walks on it, I actually think he is allergic to it. Whenever he does spend time on grass he spends a lot of time chewing on his feet. He also is allergic to something else- he is almost always on benadryl and sometimes needs to take temaril-p for a couple weeks.
If Jaspers behavior just started it is more likely an allergy- unless something triggered a past behavior. Obie has been with me for more than 4 years now, more than half his life, and the licking behavior has not changed no matter what we do. The only thing that reduces it is to tire him out. He can be distracted with food games and he will stop, but he will pick it up on schedule again.
I'm glad JL is making progress, I hope the vet has a solution for her.

Oh JASPER! LMAO over here! What has your momma done to you??
You are stylin' your booties like no other dog could!!!
As cannot stop laughing! She is so darn cute and seemingly completely indifferent!!

@ Karen - that was my initial concern/ thought.. .that something triggered this and it's an OCD thing since she seems pretty calm when she's going to town on toes/feet... like it's soothing (but it's annoying to me - especially when she wakes me up doing it). The benedryl does help but I want to see if it's something else that's fixable. My friends have suggested a phermone collar, vitamins, bone broth, marrow.... it's so frustrating! And it must be for her too. She does the same ... chew on herself and then her toys and then herself till she goes sleepytime. She is definitely a chewer but she's not teething so I don't get it. But we go through about 5- 7 stuffed toys - a week!!! Maybe she's not getting enough exercise so she's bored? I feel like a bad dog mom for sure. My work has been insane. I guess I can take her to day care more often... sigh.
Oh Sally... too bad you aren't on the FB - I got a great video of her walking/flopping in them ... pure comedy. I will try and upload it later. Too funny!
I'll keep you all posted what our vet says ...

Oh Jasper...you in those booties your mom came up with is priceless!! I can't quit giggling over here!!
Ok...I think I've calmed down a bit...I know you must be uncomfortable with the itchiness or whatever you have going on that's making you chew on your toes. Hopefully the vet can figure something out whether it's allergies or OCD and give you something to help with it.
And my for such a little girl you sure go through a lot of toys. I think mom may have to find something a little stronger since you keep demolishing 5+ stuffed toys a week...
I hope all goes well with the vet and let us know what happens!
