Nixon, gentle, f u n lpving Nixon, really is an "Angel of Light". Allof us wh o have had the privilege of meeting him could see that. Such much Grace exudes from his wise old Soul......a Soul who trained his humans sooooo well to treat him like the Diva he is!!
I'm gonna TRY and post a "copy" of Nixon's updated profile...splendidly done and so Nixon!! I'm also gon a TRY and post the link to his blog in czse anyone missed it.
I know when my beloved Happy Hannah transitioned, I wa ted her post to be uplifting and celebratory. One that reflected the sheer joy and delight and unbridled fun and laughter she and I shared during her time on earth. Weeeelll, the best laid plans. I blubbered my way through it in uncontrollable with very little reference to anything joyful or fun loving.
Ingrid and Rich, I sincerely bow down in awe at the "Nixon specific" posts you have been able to make on Nixon's behalf! To KNOW that you are shattered and taken to your knees with his crossover, yet remind us of who he IS, and will continue to BE, with every single word you've written and every wonderful photo you jave shared...yeah, I'm in awe!!
Nixon is sooooo proud!! His grace and courage come shining through you both!
From my heart,
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Nixon's bio: Hey, I'm Nixon. I left this earth just shy of my 12th birthday, spending my retirement in North Carolina after racing in Florida. I was a pretty good athlete and ran till I was almost 5. Took a little bit to find the right home for me. As much as I like small humans to visit, living with them just isn't my thing. I don't mind cats or small dogs but small humans just don't understand that I need my beauty sleep and I don't want to share my bed with them. Beds are a very wonderful and personal thing and I will share ANYTHING else in the world, just not my bed.
My hobbies inclue travel, playing, hiking, and peeing on ALL the things. People, dogs, inanimate objects. If it isn't moving, I'm going to pee on it.
Being a greyhound, there are lots of greyhound events to go to. I've done Greyhounds in Gettysburg twice and Beach Bound Hounds in Myrtle Beach twice. I have plans to attend Greyhounds Rock Fredericksburg this year.
I share my home with a six year old greyhound Cookie. She'll be 7 around Memorial day. We raced at the same track but I retired a few months before she started. Cookie isn't the bravest dog and she leans on me for guidance in scary situations. We love to play to gether in the backyard together.
I used to share my home with a much older greyhound named Kitty. Kitty lived well into her 14th year. She was the boss of me and then one day everything changed. She stood up to get up from a nap and her hind leg just snapped in two. My humans said she had osteosarcoma. They took her away on a stretcher and I never saw her again.
And then there are my people. I have a fuzzy male human with long hair and fur on his face. He met me and instantly wanted to bring me home. We howl together every evening and chat in the mornings while he drinks his coffee. Then there is the female. Kind of flighty, not as much of a spook as Cookie is but she has a hard time relaxing. I take her out every night for a walk to help keep her calm. She also needs a lot of affection and I often invite her over to snuggle before she goes to bed at night. Sometimes she falls asleep in my bed and snores in my ear. Loudly. The humans refer to themselves as "Mommy and Daddy."

I am so sorry to hear of Nixon's crossing to the bridge. I have been away a few days as hubby was back in hospital and the Internet just crawls there. Impossible to get online. He had a terrific life , I want a retirement just like his.i am so, so thankful I got to meet him. He was very special. Rich and Ingrid, I know that your hearts are just shattered right now and it is so hard to look past the current hour or even minute. Just know that you gave him so much love and care and he knew it. Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, Lori, Ty & the gang
TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
Oh, Sweet Nixon...Run free, baby! Chase those bunnies! Now you can sleep all day in the sunshine if you'd like...or all night in a soft, cozy bed all your own.

This is beautiful, Sally, your unlimited loving devotion to everyone here is so up-lifting. I loved reading Nixon's life story, what an amazing dog he was, and so glad he was given a second chance for a happy life with Ingrid and Richard. I know they adored him to the ends of the earth and back. Like Lori, I am so glad I got to meet him in VA.
ingrid and Richard, I am continuing to keep you in my thoughts,
Love,

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
(Bonnie and Alison..right back atcha'...just reflecting back the @love and light I see in souls like you!)

"You aren't doing it TO her, you are doing it FOR her. Give her a chance at life."
Oh my, this took me by surprise. Sally, thank you, thank you, thank you. It is beautiful and a wonderful reminder of my angel. I see I need to fix the profile some more. Cookie turned 9 on May 30. Poor girl hasn't had a birthday cake yet but we'll celebrate my birthday and her's together in a couple of days. I would have loved to celebrate on June 10, which would have been Nixon's 26 Month Ampuversary. It also is our friend Taylor's two month Ampuversary (another brindle greyhound down in Florida). I don't think his dad Mark is on the forums much but he does watch FB posts.
I started to respond on Monday but have been sick with a very nasty chest cold - antibiotics, inhaler, steroids (which I have not taken), and lots of cough medicine. I actually have been sick since May 30 and was finally coming out of it but the 36 hours awake with Nixon on Friday brought everything back pretty hard and I'm not back on my feet yet.
Lori, so sorry to hear your husband has been hospitalized again. I agree, we need a Hubby status thread to keep tabs on you.
I don't want to leave anyone out but I physically am drained from this cold and sitting at the computer for very long is tough, especially after working a 12 hour shift today. To everyone who has been with us through this, thank you for all the warm thoughts and prayers. We have had a weekend of tears and laughter remembering all of the insanity of bringing Nixon into our house. We are not ones to wait very long before opening up our homes and hearts to another dog after lessons learned from Miss Kitty, our first greyhound. She believed that we should "Love Hard, Mourn Hard, and Open Our Heart Immediately Again." We do mourn hard and dig through ALL the photos and remember all the fun and crazy we had. It helps but even after Cookie was with us for 3 weeks, I wrote this:

I cannot believe that it is just a month since we said good bye to Kitty. The only way I can describe the sadness is that an entire portion of my life has been locked away from me. I can see in through a window but I just can't get back in and I never will. I crave for just one more hug.

We're probably going to wait a little longer than we normally do to bring in a new housemate because we do want extra time with Cookie and just seeing how she's handling it. She'll let us know when she's ready to look for someone else. She's a very aloof girl and I want to give her a chance to interact more with us. Tonight, after dinner, we snuggled and snored for 3 hours on her bed.
I was reading my facebook entries after we brought Nixon home and then two years later Cookie. We had Nixon home less than 24 hours and were off to the vet for his first set of stitches. And discovered that he wasn't cat safe at all. He dove up on the receptionist's desk to chase a cat, knocking EVERYTHING off including the CRT Computer monitor.

Trying to sleep and the dogs are running laps around the bed and licking my feet. Either I am loved or they are hungry.

I've forgotten what it is like to have a young dog in the house. Lately, it seems that all I'm saying is, "Cookie, what are you doing?", "DROP THAT!", and "NO COOKIE NO!"

We're looking at a boy named Tex on Sunday. He's a red brindle. Has some issues with resource guarding and just recently lost his home. They got a greyhound puppy and Tex just hasn't been himself since and suddenly started being aggressive with his humans. :
Has anyone had a dog with Lupus? There is another bounce back at the kennel that looks like a possum because his nose has turned white. I need to call Dr. Huff to see how much care that is going to be. His owners returned him because they didn't feel like dealing with it.
There is a very young dog that has been in and out of the kennel. He's a true bounce b ack and keeps having odd behaviors in each home he's in. This is normal for some greyhounds as they can be picky about where they want to live. Our home has not been rejected YET but there is a first time for everything.
And then there are two black hounds at the kennel that have never been in a home. Both have been there for 9 months, just like Cookie. Both are cat zappers and also don't do well with small children.
I know Nixon, Kitty, and Toughie (our angel hounds) will be there helping us find the right hound for us. And we're considering adding a third too....after we have a new fence installed in the backyard. It will b e as a foster I'm sure but I fail fostering every time I try it.
Again, thank you everyone for all the love and support.
