It sounds like Lamar is going to be in excellent hands! You have covered all bases and then some! Go and enjoy your holiday and have a super time! Give Lamar a call every now and again (hehe, I do when I’m away! 😉 I’m sure he would love to hear from his Mum and Dad!

Great to hear that you are sticking with YOUR plan!

All the very best and we shall see you when you get back. Until then, cuddles to Lamar and his brother.

Awwww... Eurydice, that's so sweet. A lot of my pals say that!

Lamar did great while we were gone. My niece sent lots of updates and photos so I didn't worry too much. He stayed in the recovery room for the week and just started to get meowy to get out on the day before we came back. He's been out and about (still just upstairs... no basement stairs or catio yet) yesterday and today and seems to be feeling good. We have the appointment with the pain specialist/acupuncture/rehab vet tomorrow morning.

He's been taking the 50mg gabapentin twice a day for two weeks. (My niece even used the pill-shooter thing without a hitch!) I would think we'd try to taper that off at this point, but I'll leave that up to the doctor. I'll let y'all know what she says.

Thanks so much for all the good thoughts and support! heart

Soooo glad things went well!  Shhhh.....we knew they would!😁

You did  such a good  job of preparing  Lamar and your neice for your trip.  All bases were covered!

Yeah, your Vet may start a tapering of Gaba.   If any  pain does return, he can always go back on.  No biggie.

Thanks for the good update!  Keep em coming!

Lamar's visit to the rehab vet this morning went well, but was rather uneventful. The doctor checked him out, squished him all over, and watched him walk around exploring the room. She wants him to continue on the gabapentin for 4 more weeks, tapering off the dose on the last 2 weeks. No acupuncture or anything exciting happened. She wants to wait and see how he does. I guess because we still don't know exactly what the heck the issue was. She said if his pain reoccurs (I reeeealllly hope not!) we could consider acupuncture or laser therapy, etc.

She did give him the okay to go down the stairs and out into the enclosure, so that's really good news. But I think I'll wait till this weekend when I can be home and make sure it all goes well. He's only been out and about for a couple days, so I think it's best to give him a couple more days of light activity before we go gettin' all wild and crazy.

I still have the appointment in August with the vet who does Chinese herbs/acupuncture/chiropractic stuff. My sister and a friend of mine swear by this guy, so I'm not going to cancel. I've got time to ponder it. Before all this happened, I was thinking of taking Lamar to see this doctor to maybe do some maintenance type stuff anyhoo.

So that's where we're at!smiley

Today was Lamar's first day back in the catio! He is happy as can be.

I shared a link to the catio here:

http://tripawds.....enclosure/

But it doesn't show the dome that we added a little while ago, so I'm attaching a photo of that. My husband and I also added some more logs in the main catio so there would be more levels and more options for getting up and down.

Darling girl, after seeing the pictures (including the link ones again) I can say this is THE ultimate catio ever created on planet Earth 🏆

You should seriously consider opening a 5🌟 cat travel agency offering the puuurfect ultimate exotic destination, the purrrfect ultimate honey moon destination, the puuurfect ultimate sports and adventure destination, the puuurfect ultimate experience for every single cat alive 😻😻😻😻😻 (Angel cats 💫 can come and play whenever they want, of course)

I bet you could charge exorbitant prices, prospective holiday makers would still be queuing for miles 🔭

When I say exorbitant prices, I mean it, the currency being composed of sardines, tuna, prawns, squid 🐟🦐🦀🐙🦑🐡 you name it!

So, I suppose, the next step would be for you to open a fish shop otherwise you’d be overloaded with your fishy earnings ...

Well done, both of you!!!!

Love and cuddles 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Dang it! Little bit of a setback.

We let Lamar go downstairs and out into the catio/dome starting this past Saturday. Everything was going great. Yesterday (Thursday) evening, he was out in the dome laying down seemingly just kinda chillin' out watching the birds. When he went to get up, he was growly and could only go backwards and in a circle. He kinda seemed to realize that it was good to not move and he laid down again. I thought I'd just give him a little time to get himself together, but after a while, he did it again, so I went into the dome to get him. Long story. Put him upstairs in the kitty recovery room for the night and he was fine and dandy in the morning.

He was out and about today and the same thing happened in the dome when I got home around 5ish. Had to kinda finagle him out and bring him up to the room again. He's back there now, but the door is open. Basement stairs closed off. It's almost 10 now and he just had some trouble getting up and was a little growly. I'm just leaving him be and hopefully he'll rest and be fine again in the morning.

He's been taking the 50mg of gabapentin in the morning and the evening (every 12 hours). I had given it to him this morning around 7ish and I gave him the evening dose a little early, around 6ish, after I got him into the kitty room. It has been less than a week since he's been able to go out so maybe he just overdid it a little. I guess I'll keep him upstairs for another couple days and hopefully that might help.

It's really a bummer because I thought we were in the clear. The only good thing is that I don't freak out about it as much as I did when it first happened. And neither does he. He's not as screamy/yowly. It seems he knows that it will pass. I also realize that this whole thing only started in May and it can take a long time for an injury to heal. But I guess it's still just kinda frustrating to not know what that injury is.

Anyhoo.... I'm sure he'll be okay. I just needed to come here and vent. And I'm going to email the rehab vet that I took him to and let her know what the skinny is.
