Wyatt adopted us in 2012, coming to us from the outdoors. He turned 13 in November. Our wonderful Wyatt was shot by someone in the area with a high powered pellet gun on 12-14-24, and his right femur was shattered. 🙁 His surgery went very well, and we are amazed with how well he has adjusted. However, he still wants to go outside, and he meows incessantly. We have the pet door blocked off currently. He had his staples removed this afternoon, and I took him in the backyard for a little while and supervised him. However, we can't be outside with him constantly, or as much as he would like. Wyatt is used to coming and going as he pleases.

I have seen "catios" and cat activity centers for the outdoors and indoors. I am wondering if anyone out there could share about the experience their outdoor/indoor cat has had transitioning to a new life.

Thanks in advance!

Hello to you and Wyatt! I'm soooo sorry some evil person did that to him! smiley7Unbelievable. Thank goodness he is on the mend!

Yes of course he doesn't know that being outside is not the best thing for him. It's a tough adjustment! And yes, catios are fantastic, here's some info about them:

As for the transition to being indoors, I think one of the best blogs about that experience is our friend Jackie's blog about Huckleberry her rescue cat. Here it is from the beginning:

I'll see if Jackie can come and give you some pointers, she's a true expert in this area so stay tuned!

I agree, it is just unbelievable that someone did that to Wyatt. I am still trying to follow up with Humane Law Enforcement here in San Diego.icon_rolleyes

All the best,

You are sooo welcome! I sent Jackie a PM so hopefully she sees it and can chime in.

Yes I hope that those awful people who did that to your sweet boy are caught!

Holler with any questions at all and let us know how it's going.
