I woke up and fed them at 5:30am. Put Possum’s 1/2 can on the floor and then gave Tuni some Fancy Feast mixed with her gaba. She didn’t finish it all so I put the food bowl back on the counter so Possum doesn’t eat it. I went back to bed and woke up at 8am to see Possum’s food entirely gone. Like not a small piece left. Bowl licked dry. Pretty certain Tuni ate the rest of it. So the other 1/2 can will be for Possum, she ate some already and I put the bowl on the counter. Poor Possum must be so hunger cause Tuni has been eating her food. It seriously is so weird this appetite Petunia has right now. I mean, she doesn’t usually finish all her food. That’s why it’s so strange.
It’s hard to say about her bowel moments as she doesn’t go every day. It’s hard to say if that was normal before surgery. She had one this morning and it was soft and stinky. Now when I think about it, she had one either yesterday or the day before. It’s possible that her next one came quicker cause she went from pate to Fancy Feast that has chunks in it so it probably fills up her colon faster? I don’t know.
I’m wondering if the fancy feast food is making her more hungry. Once I get the gel capsules, I’m putting her back on Blue Wilderness pate. Only reason I’m continuing the Fancy Feast is to hide the gaba.
Happy New Year everyone!!!!
Happy New Year!!
I dont find it strange at all. Petunia is hungry too but doesn't want to eat nasty meds in her foods. And it's possible she is not getting her thyroid meds and this would be a twofer.
Please try the above way until you get the small gel capsules.
You have too many changes at once and just finished the antibiotic too. She is pooping so no worries!!!!! The food business and not eating and eating Possums makes complete sense to me.
Love to the girls please and PLEASE give both the girls a meal with NO MEDICINE in it. FOOD is life and we NEVER want to screw up meal time.
Hugs
I just saw your post Holly right after I posted my last one.
Petunia doesn’t have a problem with the thyroid meds being sprinkled on top of her food. She’s getting that med no problem and it shows in her blood results as her levels are perfect right now. I have been full mixing in the gaba first with her food and then I’ll sprinkle the thyroid med on top. Petunia has been eating all the food with the gaba. She’s been eating the entire 3oz can of Fancy Feast (I start with just a spoonful to mix gaba in and then once she eats that, I put the remaining food from the can in her bowl), but she now is also eating Possum’s food, which is unlike her. Not to mention that last night on 3 occasions, it seems like an emergency that she gets off the couch, and when I put her down, she would go straight to Possum’s food. It’s her behavior that’s so weird. And at that point, she already ate her entire 3oz can of Fancy Feast.
Don't cut the capsule it wont go back together that way. Pull and twist it and than put it back together. It is larger but it will go down. NO it's not easy like the gel capsule is but a solution until yours come and do put the thyroid med in the gel capsule too please.
I understand her t-4 was in range and happy it was. If Petunia missed any of her meal or did not complete her med meals you would see increase in hyper t symptoms. The methimazole is short acting and why it is needed twice daily. Is that what is happening for certain? NO just telling you my thoughts on both and most importantly Petunia is eating and pooping and you have a better solution to all this coming. I cant express enough to NOT put any meds in food. I wont bring it up again but this is ONE factor in most cases that cause issues with food aversion and one issue we can alleviate by doing other means.
The thyroid med is bitter tasting, too. I don't use it myself, but MANY hyper-t humans do for their cats, and they all use gel capsules because it is bitter, and if you cut it even more nasty, So making a powder i can only imagine There is a very active hyperthyroid support group here if you ever want to join it and or just read all the info.

Ya' know Samantha, now may be it's time to just relax and decompress from all the worries and celebrate how well Petunia is doing!! She's getting her meds one way or another, she has a great appetite and is eating now, she's pooping and peeing and most importantly she's happy.👍
She's more active than she's been and she feels so much better. It could be that all these great improvements have stimulated her appetite.
There may be some little nuances of change every now and then simply because she's a senior Kitty now. And maybe her thinking she needs to eat more often is one of those little things. And there's nothing wrong with that.😉

I'd help if we were closer. 💊🎉🎊 You will find it relaxing once you're used to doing it and IF you have no helpers. Petunia, Possum, you take a snooze, K?
Your life is about to become easier, and the cats will be pleased to have a non-medicated meals. Whoo hoo. FOR ALL

Empty gel capsules came in and I prepared tonight’s pill since I had 1/2 capsule of med ready to be put in. Tonight I shall have a pill fillin’ party to at least prepare for the rest of week of pills. 💊 🎉
LOL! This made me chuckle But I can't blame you one bit, I'll bet this feels like a real relief!
They are working great! I am still sprinkling the hyperthyroidism meds on Possum’s food, but that’s never been a problem for her the last 11 months and from what the vet said, there isn’t really a taste to it. So it’s so nice that all I have to do is Possum’s food! Pills are going down easily for Tuni. Her walking has been pretty great these last few days. I haven’t seen her walking (or lack of) to the extreme of that video I posted a few weeks ago. But I’ve also been doing one of the therapeutic exercises multiple times a day (stand her up and rock her front-back, right-left). I think that’s been helping a lot. Her walking is even getting faster.
I did just move the litterbox to the laundry area this morning. The litter has been *really* affecting my breathing when sleeping at night, ever since I put the mattress on the floor. I really wish they made those kind of litter boxes (large and low entry) that are enclosed. But even if I found one, they are probably $80. It’s insane how expensive litter boxes have gotten! But, I’m gonna see how the new (ie original location) works out. I don’t really have any other places to put it and it’ll be nice to breath fresh air and not the litter smell at night!
OMC!!! She really is walking purrfectly!! Sich a HUGE improvement!! We can really see the difference in her progress!
YAAAAAAY for voth of you!!!!
