I’ll look into the syringes. I do have two from the vet. Maybe I can crush it up, mix it in with a little water, suck it up in the syringe, and give it to her that way?

Here’s a video of the size of the antiviral meds I gave Tuni. I included showing the 1/2 size pills. Heck, if the supplement is as big as the 1/2 pill, then I’m good!

I do have to say that when I was talking to the receptionist at the vet and explained my concerns for the chewables, she said that she totally understands my concern, that even 1/4 pill is pretty big and that she would be nervous about giving it as well. So I loved hearing that. I just hope that in the future they give the online option (or Chewy) as an option instead of prescribing the chewables that are meant for dogs to cats … at least if they don’t have the cat tablets in stock.

It is not as big as that but round and wide. It's hard to explain. I didn't like the size, but I wasn't used to big pills. We had no issue getting it down, but Purrkins couldn't keep it down and would throw up the entire pill hours later. Like it never dissolved

You don't need a script for the Denmarin. You can order it on Chewy. I will try to add the link, but it may not work.

Nutramax Denamarin for Liver Health Tablets for Small Dogs & Cats, 30 count

https://www.che...../dp/911558

So if it doesn't, just look on Chewys for Nutramax denamarin for Liver Health Tablets for Small Dogs & Cats, 30 count you will see $32.99 or on auto ship $31.34. The pill crusher you have, if that chewable pulverizes, is an option. I like the tube treats for consistency rather than water, so you do not have the risk of aspiration. You still have to add a drop or two of water to get it to slurp up the syringe.

Yes, don't feel bad. Obviously, they don't have enough cat patients; you know what works for you and Petunia, and this isn't working. I'm only sorry you have to pay twice, NUTS!

I sent the link to syringes thru pm fyi,

Have a good night!

hugs

I saw that and again I am so sorry thats the last thing you needed. The Vet's office is usually  more expensive on all things and a lot times we dont have a choice cause its needed ASAP. Like this time.

The chewable is aimed toward the dogs who likely love the taste. Try making it into a powder and adding treat tube, tiny bit of water slurp it up to syringe. It's an option or continue with your plan getting the tablet to syringe.

So I don’t want to jinx it, but I also want to note it because if I don’t, I will forget about it.

Petunia walked around so much today. I mean, not a crazy amount, but for a few weeks, since around the time I posted that video of her walking, she hasn’t been walking good. Like, AT ALL!

She did finish her antibotic. She also hasn’t been on the liver supplement for a few days until I get her new one in. (Trust me when I say that I’ve been trying all sorts of things to get her to consume the chewable, and it’s just not working - when the chewable is crushed, it’s a lot of powder).

What I am curious, and I really hope is the reason, is maybe the sprinkling of the gaba is actually giving her the pain relief needed, but not the wobbliness. If this is the case, I think I am going to be the happiest ever!

Just as I’m typing this, she got down from the couch and went to the bedroom (assuming to poop, where she just was about 10 mins ago before coming back to the couch). And her walking seems very improved since over the last few weeks. Like, the last few weeks were pretty much like the weeks before going to rehab for the first time where she barely walked and if she did, it didn’t look good.

I’m hoping this form of administrating gaba is doing wonders! Just gotta wait and see!

Note: I did mention her not being on the antibiotic and supplement right now cause I wasn’t sure if that had something to do with it. However, she was having trouble walking right before I started her on the meds, soooo ….

Stay tuned!!!

Again, you are with petunia 24/7 and observe every Nuance about her. You do a very good job of trying to coordinate meds, supplements, Etc in relation to whether she walks better or not.

So I can only say whatever you've done the last couple of days is working. Go with your instinct!!! 👍

Of course you know we love videos of P.etunia.. hint hint hint😉

I wish I took videos! Not to mention that I just cleaned the house and vacuumed, so what a perfect time? Haha!!!

I think that made me excited was witnessing her get down from the couch twice (which meant she went back to the couch both times) within 30 mins. Like, SHE did that on her own with me not having to take her to the litterbox cause she’s been laying on the couch all day. She’ll get up in the night when in bed, but didn’t show independence during the day. And I’ve noticed her getting around faster as well, meaning that not only has her hops been speedier, but she’s taking more before she rests. And she didn’t really “drag” her backside and used her entire back leg. So today is definitely a good day, and I hope to continue to see more!

Whoo Hoo Petunia 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Celebration regardless of why, and yes🙏🏻🤞🏻 for many more repeat days.

I hope the denamarin tablet goes much better for you both in all aspects.

You are still giving 50 mg of Gaba - now half of the capsule, so I have no idea how that would make a difference, but we take wins and celebrate no matter the "reason." Yes, time will tell you more, and make a note or post here when you resume the denamarin

Love to both the girls, please.

I am only doing 1/2 the capsule, which yes, it is still 50mg, but I don’t know if there is a difference between feeding her a solid 50mg pill form, or sprinkling 50mg worth of powder in her food that makes the difference. I’m no expert in solid pill verse powder form when digested, but I like to take note if perhaps there is a difference on how her body absorbs and reacts to it since I am no expert. And, I am just kinda hoping that even though the dosage is the same, maybe the reaction now is to her advantage when it comes to pain management and her ability to walk with seemingly being wobbly because of the pill form. 😃

Im no expert either. icon_lolThe only difference I can think of is if Petunia doesn't eat all her meals, she is not getting the dose. I worry Possum will get the dose? If you're there and watching no issue.

It is also possible you are not exact when splitting the capsule. Maybe scientifically there is? Got me

The most important thing is Petunia is doing much better right? YES, make notes you have✅ Now maybe you can let the why go a tiny bit;)  Please enjoy the good times

kisses to the girls

I mix the meds on the top part of the food so she will consume it. Also I have been leaving the food that wasn’t eaten on the counter and will give it to her time to time if she wants to eat more. I also think I need to convert officially to fancy feast as she hasn’t eaten the Blue Wilderness the last few times and I can be wasting food. I definitely have to keep it away from Possum since I don’t want her to have any of it.

I agree with the fancy feast because Petunia loves it, but I also think it is because you are putting meds in her food, and GABA does have a taste.

Do me a favor, please - so you fully understand what I'm saying. I want you to taste that powder. A tiny taste wet your finger, put in the powder, and taste it; Gaba is unpleasant!!! Have something to drink to wash it down. GROSS

Putting meds in food can put them off their food. I think the fancy feast is stinkier, and the meds hide easier. Also, I think Petunia is very likely not getting the total dosage, and if that is working GREAT, run with it.

You can always get blank gel capsules, put the 1/2 capsule in a gel shell, and pill it. There are even ones that are chicken-flavored.

I experimented for you; here is pic of your gaba 100 mg capsule
divided in half and put into two different gel shells.
1/2 capsule fits nicely in both #4 and #5 capsules. You see how tiny a #5 is. It's lovely when something works out this way and goes down in the blink of an eye.

Do what works for you and Petunia, but once you see how Gaba tastes, I think you will change your mind on how she receives it. If so, you have the above options.

The other factor we are not talking about is resuming the solensia injections. Maybe Petunia doesn't need the 50 mg dosage of gaba anymore or any for that matter. Don't know you see her everyday and can access better but it popped into my head today about her getting her injections again.
hugs
